Class of 2025 PG Tyler Jackson (MD) Verbal to EKU

Hopefully the lesson has been learned to not sign an overweight out of shape plodder who can't jump over a phone book.
But he can pass, serve as a point guard in the half court, and cook

I’d pay to watch this over an actual Syracuse game

Center is focus of next year in portal. They have $1m allocated to find a center. They believe is Aussie kid as the PG of the future and don’t be surprised if Donnie stays.

Even after this year, they are going to drop $1M on a center for next year?

This is great… if it were the 80s.

And banking in a first year lead guard?

Lord. This program.

Unheralded? He is Australia’s national team point guard for his age group.
Nobody seemed to know he existed until we signed him is what I meant. Also, when you say “National Team”, it sounds great. But I think he’s like the 25th ranked SG on 247 etc.

Ehhhh I get the skepticism, but at the same time I think the board underrates him. This isn’t a Howard Washington type pickup.

I think he’ll be good. Would I bet my career that he can lead the team next year? Nope.

Yeah people don’t realize he’s one of the best players on a national team

You watch his film from that last international tournament, and you can see he was one of the best players on the floor. Big talent, and really good size. It sounds goofy to say, I know, but I see some Chris Mullin in this kid.

I think roster construction takes time with great evaluation. I’m excited that Kline has been out on the recruiting trail watching games and connecting with players. I think the portal is going to change and the ability to recruit will become important. Red and his staff are building relationships with the 26 class, especially with Rippley and Smith. You put those two kids on a roster and a coach will instantly look better. The four kids coming in next year are all more skilled than most of the players on this roster. We saw Tuesday that the right guys on the floor can play defense. Red needs to get guys who can defend and play offense. We have half a roster who can only play one end of the floor. Sure, that is on the coaching staff, but let’s see how the roster looks next year after a full season with Kline as GM and two recruiting classes under Red. There’s no denying this roster is a complete mess, but we need to be careful we don’t lose all the work going on behind the scenes to put us further back. If the portal changes, which I think will happen, you better be able to recruit. Players make coaches look good. Ask JB?

Lots of people would not want to hear this

Amazing that Jackson lasted so long into the process and winds up at a mid major. He is the 52 ranked player in his class according to the RSCI summer rankings!

It will be interesting to see where his final ranking ends up.

My opinion only, but where he ended up should tell you everything you need to know about the accuracy of his ranking. He was a guy who was a sophomore, was rated in the top 25, but then plateaued and failed to develop or improve physically. He was an early Bloomer

Nothing against him, but he was not as good as that initial rating, and never was a prospect. Good enough to play in the ACC level

I imagine it’s very difficult for analysts who have gotten it so wrong to drop him from their top 25 two years ago to out of their top100 in their final high school rankings…

I think it's more like the kids showed early potential, so he was rated highly, but then he didn't grow, gain physical maturity, improve his handle, etc

Years ago before LeBron, there was a high school player who was quite similar named Schae Cotton, who was like a 230 lb freshman who had versatile skills. He was physically dominant, and ranked as the number one prospect, but as others caught up physically he wasn't as dominant, and ended up not being nearly as good as projected.

It happens.

That name is a blast from the past. If I remember correctly, he visited the Dome for a game too.

Tyler Jackson dropped out of the RSCI top 100 entirely.

That big of a move is unusual, but predicted here.
