We stayed at the Westin this past weekend and it was very nice. We will almost surely stay there again in a few weeks should things work out favorably...

philly is a pretty easy city to get around in. we always stay in center city for the nova games, it is a pretty easy drive or cab ride to the sports complex, or you can take the train which is cheap and doesn't take that long either. center city is really fun, lots of historic stuff and buildings, parks, restaurants, shopping, the ben franklin institute is good for kids. plenty of stuff to do before/after the games. i've never felt unsafe, it isn't really all that busy on weekends.

The Marriot downtown is at 12th and Market Sts. and if memory serves me correctly, there are a Coyurtyard and Residence Inn also within two blocks. Easy walk to the SEPTA station at City Hall and the Broad Street subway line (Orange) to the Linc. That's what I'd do.

If you are making a weekend out of it, stay in Philly and take the subway (whatever they call it in Philly)...we did that and caught a Phillies game as part of the trip - very easy to get from city center out to the stadia...
