I think if the team plays at a high pace with an intense defense they are a NCAAT team, especially in a weak ACC

Maybe but I am skeptical at this point in time.

A lot of ifs at the moment of course, not the least of which is tourney teams most often have good coaching. I am not confident we're solving that need this year.

weak acc = harder to make the tourney, not easier (its a big assumption the ACC stays weak, though, I doubt that continues)

very easy for teams to play slow down grind it out games if they want to...so relying on IF they play fast AND play intense defense...doesnt seem a high likelihood, imo...have seen either one so far under red

If Red doesn’t make the NCAAT he’s gone. It’s as simple as that. We’ll know by January if this roster is competitive enough to make the tournament.

Agreed.

I am just not buying any hype this year until it's proven on the court.

Not buying any of the favorites from last year:
  • "These players are going to be great and the staff is humming with excitement about them."
  • "Saw practice today and 'player X' is the real deal and the team looked great."
Proof will be on the court when the season starts.

I don't begrudge anyone their own hopium without evidence, but it won't be me.

With the Vegas tournament, won't we know before December again? (Depressing that I just asked that.)

Lack of athleticism on the wing. The switchabilty that Res wants to play with is nonexistent. It’s basically only Sadiq on roster.

I answered the question wrong, I’m “ok” with a Kyle Freeman Center duo and Souare in emergency situations.

To be fair, the poll is about what weaknesses we SHOULD be okay with and I'm guessing basically nobody would say shooting is one we should be okay with. Does feel pretty inevitable though.
Weakness we could be ok with is our center not scoring a ton say 8 pnts game but gets 2-3 blocks and 10 bosrds a game. Hard part here is if he is a shot blocker then they generally arent in position for rebounding.

I’ve been saying we need someone to push him for mins. Freeman would be my first guess to who can assume scoring burden with JJ out.

As it stands right now, this doesn't look like a tourney team to me... more like a middling pack ACC team at best.

The center position looks particularly baffling at the moment, with two undersize options after a year of no rim protection. I get that 7 footers don't grow on trees, but we need a real BIG. That much is glaring at this point imo.

Still more time with the portal so hopefully we are not done for key pieces (and I am sure we'll be adding a few squad fillers as well and need to.)
We have the roster pieces to be a tourney team. I don’t see how we won’t be at least a mid-pack ACC team at worst. In Red’s first year, we finished like 5th in the conference. We should be able to do at least that well this season, barring any catastrophic injuries. We’ll see if Red can pull it off. We need to be a non-bubble tourney team by his third season as head coach or I don’t think he survives.

There seems to be a lot of assumptions and expectations right now at the center position.

Say what you want about Lampkin and his known defensive warts, but we got pretty much what we thought we'd get from him as a seasoned P4 center with multiple years starting experience.

We have no one currently that is a PROVEN P4 starter at center.

Kyle certainly looks promising, but he will have to prove it.

Assuming he's just going to waltz in and perform immediately like a seasoned P4 starting center may be wishful thinking and not a valid assumption.

...and God help us if he gets injured. Souare looks like our typical squad filler practice center project.

If he's bubble and in the tournament I think he survives another year. Barring huge improvement from the ACC, it'll probably take like 25 wins to get in. I don't see him doing that and getting fired by SU.

yeah me too...im fine with a good defensive center that doesnt score much...but he has to be elite rim protector/shot blocker/rebounder etc

what would irk is if the center is neither a good scorer or rim protector
