"I'm very much in favor of high school kids going pro," said Pitino. "I had six young men commit to me out of high school that didn't go to college, that went to the pros. I'm very much for that because they didn't want college. They wanted to go to the NBA. And if they go to the [NBA Development League], that's fine with them. But the six-, seven-month education, online classes second semester. I don't know what that does for a young person. Now, I'm different than, probably, the coach of Kentucky, who is having so much success with that."

Can't wait for Coach Cal to come back with his 3.1 team GPA comment. Maybe Erik Bledsoe is their full-time math tutor.

I always wondered how Cal finagled getting all those one and doners to successfully complete their second semesters so Kentucky's APR rating was not negatively affected. Rick is insinuating "online courses" during second semester. That makes perfect sense. The NBA camps start before second semester graduation so it is hard to believe all those "student-athletes" stayed on campus to complete second semester courses.

The velvet glove with an iron fist. Hopefully, Pitino didn't think that shot was clever.

To be fair, Cal's not the only guy doing this. The APR is a farce and one and one is so much easier to deal with. 24 credits in a 1.8. Most programs probably have 24 credits of electives so they might not even need to take a "real class", yet that's better than going right into the pros?

Coach Cal has another advantage, according to EPSN, the NCAA has just determined that there are no YMCAs in the state of KY.

John Wall and Demarcus Cousins spent more time at NBA combines and workouts than they did on campus after their season ended. That is a fact.

It seems to me Cal takes it to another level. Surely no other program sells itself as the One-and-done university like Kentucky. He pitches Kent as an NBA training camp to his recruits and, although legal, that is not the image that most schools want to convey!

Great point netman. He even got all the NBA teams and ESPN to come to his "combine" and that coverage was ridiculous. I have to imagine that every other coach was pissed that they couldn't pull off the same thing.

What was his reason behind having that during the pre season?

Fewer distractions during the season. Got all the NBA visits out of the way early. I'm sure getting ESPN coverage had nothing to do with the decision.

im in favor of this too.

if you dont want to go to college or you want to be a 1 and done, then go pro.

just be ready for the D-league and all the more power to ya.

but if you do come to college, now you must stay for 2.

I think if you are good enough to play in the nba out of hs, ie a Lebron, a Kobe, a KG, you shouldn't be forced to go to college for a year. If you aren't in the boat, you have to go to school for three years.
