Someone tell me how it's acceptable to have not 1, not 2, but three...THREE teams dominate you in your own Conference?

It's embarassing and something needs to change. These teams don't have better players every time, in fact, one would probably argue that we usually have more NBA talent than those 3 teams combined year in/year out.

So if it's not the players, what is it?

A). Our unimaginative offense?

B). Our 2-3 zone that we NEVER switch out of, not even for one play?

C). Both.

Don't try to make sense out of the things our staff does. I've stopped. Just a waste of energy. Especially when it comes to those three teams. Usually when you get owned by the same team over and over you realize you might need to throw in a new wrinkle or something different... Anyways, guards didn't show up. Couldn't make shots. Cooney and Roberson were MIA like they have been for 75% of games this season. Now it looks like Silent G could be hurt. Ughhhhh. Just need to beat Nc State and FSU

They are all 3 very physical teams that do a lot of handchecking and can rebound.,SU hasnt been very physical since the days of Otis Hill and AO. Face it, It was men against boys the last 2 games.

Mal and TC 2-19, cant beat a HS team w those #s. Pitt shot higher % from 2, 3, and the free throw line AND outrebounded us by like 14. No way you can win that game. No way

Also, don't get me wrong, I don't dislike the zone. I actually really like it. I like recruiting long, athletic players.

In a year like next year, we will probably beat all three of those teams but you can't sustain a starting lineup of 6-6, 6-6, 6-9, 6'9, 7'2 or whatever that freak show team measures out to next year.

You need to be able to ADAPT when teams have you figured out. You can't just run the same offensive sets and the same defense and expect different results. If it's not working, you need a fallback, at the very least just to throw a new look at the other team for a few minutes to disrupt their flow.

It's absurd that we don't do that and it's even more absurd that we have to chalk up 3 teams in our own conference to a likely loss every year.

We cant place offense against these teams. Pressure defense is our kryptonite. I wonder if it is a result of playing the zone in practice.

Or playing guards out of position - like having a small forward run our point.

We have to stop recruiting for the zone.

Couldnt rebound and couldnt hit many shots last 2 games. Tough to blame that on the zone. I guess you can blame weak rebounding on zone but personally i would blame it on a lack of boxing out, lack of physicality and not wanting it enough

What happens next year if Battle starts at the 1, so we role out a team to start each game without a true PG again?

Cooney and G were both terrible coming back and getting rebounds. We get them to take contested threes and then give up the long rebound. Why? So our guards can run the break? I don't recall a single fast break by us today. Needed to crash the boards all day long.

JB got outcoached.

I don't even think the rebounding was toughness or strength. They just have a guy where we don't on 104% of long boards that go the FT line. Is that all luck? The zone maybe but it happens on both ends of the court. Maybe we need to learn Physics and trajectories better?

I know we can't criticize Trev here but their last possession of the half where he's an hour late on a fruitless close out and then is woefully out of position for the rebound to boot which bounced right where he should be...uggh, such a microcosm though they miraculously didn't score.

If?

But hey, he can make shots so I'm sure it's better than actually starting a pass first point guard like Frank. Cause offense.

Cooney, Richardson and Roberson all played their worst games of the season, and Gbinije was largely ineffective as well. SU got virtually no offense from their primary scorers and was dominated on the boards at both ends. It was a small miracle that this game was tied at the 7:00 mark. Kudos to Lydon and Coleman for showing up and keeping the team in game.

This isn't about one game. This is every game against these three teams for the past few years. It's getting ridiculous.

Do we know that Battle isn't a PG?

After hearing that Howard is a combo guard(he's not), MCW could fill it up from 3(he couldn't) and that Roberson was a day 1 starter and could shoot from the high post(LOL), I don't trust people's takes on our high school recruits any more.

If howard doesn't start then I give up knowing anything about basketball
Only way he starts is if Roberson comes off the bench.

Battle is starting.
Lydon is starting.
Richardson is starting.
Chukwu is starting.

All 4 of those guys are future NBA players.

We get hamstrung by recruiting for defense first. You need to be long to be effective and we sacrifice size (width), strength, and offense for length. It is unusual when you can get a kid with both. I think playing zone prevents some of the blue chippers coming b/c that isn't what they are going to play in the NBA. If I was a coach I would certainly use that as a tactic against coming to SU.

I would pump the brakes on Chukwu. Those are crazy expectations for him at this point. You're just setting yourself up to be disappointed.

Over the last 5 years we are:
4-5 vs. Pitt
4-3 vs Louisville

So, that's 8-8 over the last 5 seasons vs. two programs in the NCAAs almost every year. Not a disaster.

Virginia has been better than us all 3 years we've been in the ACC, and we've played them there 2 out of the 3 games. We had them at home during one of our worst seasons in decades.

BUT we own COLGATE !

(i think if you go back 10 years we're like 5-15 against PITT ) that's bad!
