Assume: two eight team divisions.

Assume: Uconn and one additional big east team (Louisville for example) makes it 16

BEGIN

FSU and Clemson go to the SEC and WVU also goes to the SEC. That will leave the ACC with 12 teams. The ACC then adds UConn, Rutgers, Louisville, and South Florida to get to 16. If Clemson and FSU don't go to the SEC, then Louisville and South Florida are left out of the ACC.

ACC North
Syracuse
Pitt
UConn
Rutgers
BC
Maryland
Virginia
Virginia Tech

ACC South
Miami
South Florida
Louisville
Duke
NC State
UNC
Wake Forest
Georgia Tech

The ACC North will look a lot like the Old Big East, just trade Maryland and Virginia for Miami and West Virginia.

Football divisions
Atlantic Coastal
BC SU
NC St UNC
Pitt VPI
FSU Miami
Wake Duke
Clemson Georgia Tech
Maryland Virginia

Basketball each team has 2 protected home/homes each year and the rest rotate.
BC- SU/VPI SU-BC/Pitt
NC St- UNC/Wake UNC-NC St/Duke
Pitt- SU/Miami VPI- UVA/BC
FSU- Miami/Clemson Miami- FSU/Pitt
Wake- NC St/Ga Tech Duke- UNC/UMD
Clemson- FSU/Ga Tech Georgia Tech- Clemson/ Wake
Maryland- Duke/UVA Virginia- VPI/UMD

Screw going to 16 until they are forced too.

Assuming that scenario:

SU
Pitt
UConn
ND or Rutgers
BC
Maryland
Virginia
VaTech

NC
Duke
NC St
WF
Clemson
GaTech
FSU
Miami

Pretty easy to figure out really.

First, I really don't want to assume that Connecticut will get the nod ... but if you insist.

Northern Division (makes sense for a Northern and Southern division)

Syracuse
Pittsburgh
Boston College
Connecticut
Maryland
Virginia
Virginia Tech
Louisville

Southern Division

North Carolina State
North Carolina
Duke
Wake Forest
Clemson
Georgia Tech
Florida State
Miami

This would maintain the Tobacco Road rivalries and the "old" Big East rivalries. The Northern Division would be a much tougher division (unless Rutgers gets the nod...but I believe they are more destined for the Big 10) and Duke and North Carolina would continue to have smooth sailing against their weaker sisters.

Projecting a round robin in each division.. home and home the same year and then playing each of the other division teams home and home every other year. Of course that would equate to 15 games. Not much different than the Big East now. Conference championships are a real problem with ACC being committed to playing Championships on Tobacco Road 2012 -2015 I believe. That would suck big time.

Louisville, while a good fit (IMHO) with the ACC in FB and BB, may not fit on the academics/research factor.
