and this was well before Dungey got hurt.

played it very safe even in the drives he was in on. We didnt help outselves with penalties the 2nd drive. we gained 23 yds but needed 25 after the 2 penalties. without that we probably get a FG shot.

still we went with very soft throws, bubble screen, tunnel screen, qb draw. When we crossed the 50 we still stayed soft and went fast tempo which turned into a bubble screen and then the 3rd down clemson was not ready we went very fast but ran a play on 3rd and 16 that at best gains 6-7 yds and thats what it did, then on 4th down we ran a play where we fake bubble and try to sneak behind the LB down the sideline, thats well and good but Clemson was over loading the safeties with 2 on that side and with no deep threat the safety just walked up and made the tackle.

Looking it the high view I am even more surprised we didnt take a shot deep. Tawo was 1 on 1 with no safety help and the whole field to work with since Clemson had both safeties on the short side. I cant believe that that is the correct read against that D. They had no pass rush and tons of room with our #1 guy to attack the field.

Im not sure we attacked with more than a deep slant all game.

How much of it was poor play calling and how much was it Dungey panicking? Not to knock someone when he's down but he had the jitters big time. I'm getting a little concerned that the moment gets too big for him. Hopefully he can play against FSU and we'll find out if the Hokie Dungey shows up or the dude who showed up against Louisville and ND shows up.

i missed the entire 1st Q and was wondering if they got to him at all with pressure in the 1st Q. Any sacks/hits or trash talking that might have rattled him?

there was very little pressure the first quarter. he ran a couple times before the one he got hurt.

That was the bizarre part... they got maybe one hit on him and a few balls batted but in general he didn't seem to have that much pressure on him. It's almost like he was expecting pressure but when he didn't get it he still bailed on the play early. Perfect example is the pick he threw... he never progressed past his first read and just threw it when he probably had more time to scan other options. However in his defense he might just not have seen the defender but he definitely stared down the receiver. He looked very much like the Dungey from the middle quarters of games where he just looked lost and shellshocked except he did it from the first drive on.

My thought early on was that we let the atmosphere get the best of us. I assumed that would settle down as the game wore on, but once he took that hit, that was the end of that...

He settled that one drive and then we got two false starts in a row and that ended that drive. I think the drive after that was when he got nailed.
