Play of the game (in my opinion)

Didn't realize that. It did seem like Cooney was shooting a lot of foul shots, but after that BS call on Grant, I wasn't going to complain. At first I thought that maybe Cooney was trying a 3 point shot when he was fouled and that's why he was getting the extra attempt.

The call on Grant wasn't BS as far as the rules go. That is the rule its a Flagrent 1 every time. The rule is BS though that's for sure. I guy should be entitled to turn over his own body and if you want to try and defend with your face that should be no different than a reach in foul IMO. Its just reaching in with your face like a dumb*ss rsther than your hands.

He also hit a 3 when we were down 25-7 to start the 20-0 run. May seem like nothing now but that was a huge shot.

That was huge to stop the bleeding, but I would also nominate his drawing of the foul for our next score. While the 3 was like "Finally!", his jumping into the defender to draw the foul was a smart, cool, veteran play that seem to say, "OK, if we just calm down and use our heads, we can get back into this". It stopped the clock, scored some points, cut the lead, added a foul, and helped to shift control of the game.

agreed, it was not just a purposeful touch foul; he half tackled him

Agreed as well and calling a Flagrant 1 (non basketball play + excessive contact) or an intentional (no play on the ball) would make sense but both of those are 2 plus the ball and not what they called. They whistled the foul and then T'd him up right after. I'm glad it worked out better for us and was one of those needles excessive fouls in a game that was over that I hate. Still I'm not sure why he was t'd up.

The only downer continues to be CJ's turnovers. He has to stop all the dribbling and learn to pass out of double teams.

I was going to start a thread about CJ's alarming turnover numbers, but I figured why kill the mood. But you're completely right, it's an issue.

Its getting to the point where you can see them coming. I thought early on he would adjust but its beginning to look like he just isn't great at handling the double team with the dribble and presses too much on the bounce. He needs to pass more and let things come to him in the flow which is what made him a great player. We have enough elsewhere that this should be more than doable.

On the bright side, our point guard had ZERO!

he tackled him and then threw him off balance in front of the ref. but i think it was of a intential foul worthy than T worthy.. i think the ref was just reacting to all the hard fouls Vill committed during the game.

What I am excited about is having a big game going 5 for 8 is becoming second nature for Cooney. There are a lot of games between now and March. Every game where he gets 15+ points is boosting his confidence. I just can't imagine where this team is going to be by March!

CJ does a lot of things very, very well. Reacting to a double team is not one of them at this point. A couple of his off balance turnovers looked exactly the same as a few Kris Joseph had against Ohio St. in the Elite 8. The difference is those helped cost us a final four, CJ still has time to improve in this small, but important aspect of the game.

If Cooney were on any other team I would despise him. Like Aaron Craft, Bobby Hurley level hate.

Nothing approaches Craft level hate for me. Id like for someone to snap both his legs, Silva style, and leave him in a dumpster
