We seem to have an unusually high number of quality players come to SU and get worse. Obviously, the Players Era was a tough draw to start the year, but we recruited players that should be able to play at that level. Maybe it's the pressure of playing here or the coaching or the player development staff, but we aren't going to get better until improvements are made.

That's what happens when you don't have an identity, offensive system and discipline. I feel bad for George getting trapped when he crosses half court. Never imagined our offense running through Kyle. Autry was embarrassed in the 2nd half getting high/low'd to death. I don't think Iowa State had more talent than us, just a lot better coaching.

We clearly need an entirely new coaching staff. Lack of anything that resembles an offense tells all. But that aside, letting JJ and WK shoot ft like that is entirely on the coaches idc. One practice and you can make the form at least look better than it is now.
That is 100% true. It's one thing to be a horrible free throw shooter but to look like that while you are doing it is embarrassing to the program

The announcing teams during the Players Era weren't exactly complimentary of our coaching approach, especially as it relates to free-throw shooting form. For real though, how do you not address the shooting form before the season starts? We've been watching JJ's hitch for how many years now?

Some teams go an entire decade never seeing an air balled free throw, we saw 2 this week alone.
Did you ever think that we are trying to set a record for air ball free throws in a season? Quite a feather in our caps if we can do it.

I keep saying that I can’t fathom how after seeing Kyle’s FT form on his **first day in the gym this summer** one of our coaches didn’t immediately stop everything and address it.

How can any “coach” allow a guy to shoot like that?! It totally is an embarrassment. And it suggests that this staff doesn’t sweat the small stuff in any way. Which, honestly, was apparent by the way they vomited all over the offseason prior to last season.

These guys aren't being put in position to succeed. Not running a competent offensive set makes every single player look and play worse. These guys aren't NBA players, they can't just create a good look every time down the court on their own. We don't have the athleticism on the perimeter to consistently drive and dish either.

We have some of the worst coaching at the power conference level. Until that is fixed, we aren't going to be a threat for anything

We may have already done it, but there is always the goal of making a record truly unbreakable

remember the championship team wasn't ranked til january. we've now faced 3 quality opponents back to back to back . this experience should only make us tougher. the strongest steel is forged by the hottest fires. there is no i in QUIT and only the lonely get played . (although we all sang laid ) now everybody go enjoy yer vittles !

(ok that's my pep talk).

Good point. Kyle has been great, but he was just as good at South Dakota State previously.
I’m not sure how good he was, but he has went from a 60% free throw shooter in two years at South Dakota St to a 30% free throw shooter between his time at UCLA and the Orange. Its not a small sample either, he shot 200 free throws in 2 years at SD State.
