Players getting worse

It is mind boggling how we can go to overtime against Houston and then get run off the court by Iowa St. We are screwed.

We seem to have an unusually high number of quality players come to SU and get worse. Obviously, the Players Era was a tough draw to start the year, but we recruited players that should be able to play at that level. Maybe it's the pressure of playing here or the coaching or the player development staff, but we aren't going to get better until improvements are made

That is a good question. Maybe Houston isn’t good. In a couple of weeks you will know how good Houston is. But if Houston is great, not just good in a few weeks I would be maddened as a Syracuse fan.

But yeah, free throws. Wouldn’t have mattered against ISU, but still you’d be what, 6-2 now if the team shot say 65%? If Autry truly is the issue (probably is) and this team shot 70% from the free throw line you’d probably rack up 6-7 (lol) more wins in spite of him.

And have a lot of closer heart attack inducing games that make the season fun. Close games are always fun.

I keep saying that I can’t fathom how after seeing Kyle’s FT form on his **first day in the gym this summer** one of our coaches didn’t immediately stop everything and address it.

How can any “coach” allow a guy to shoot like that?! It totally is an embarrassment. And it suggests that this staff doesn’t sweat the small stuff in any way. Which, honestly, was apparent by the way they vomited all over the offseason prior to last season.
Yeah. It doesn't make sense that you see that and go "sure, you know what, that's cool."

One game is just one game, and not necessarily a projection of anything. There is no Rule of Extension/transitive principle.

I mentioned this in the game thread—that teams sometimes get blown out in an NBA playoff series, and still win the series. Bad things can compound and snowball. We aren’t 30 points worse than Iowa State.

Houston only beating ND by 10 maybe they arent very good.
Kansas only beat ND by 10, who just beat Tenn, who beat Houston. Good teams compete with eachother and sometimes weird results happen. Bad teams just have bad results against everyone with a pulse

I always remember the Lakers losing a playoff series. Maybe 2002. Kobe said he was tired. Shaq replied Kobe shouldn’t be tired. Cause Kobe was 24.

These are kids. Playing basketball. Maybe a 6-11 or 7-1 guy has an excuse for fatigue. Great Dane puppies take longer to mature than Whippets.

Fatigue in 20 year-olds after 24 hours is so overrated. Unless you are out of shape. Again unless you are a freshman giant like Edey or Clingan.

Pride fighters in the early aughts fought 3-4 times a day. Heavyweights. Google Crocop vs Barnes.

A young kid kid (late teens early 20s) should never feel like they are unrested a day later from ANY activity. To the point of not being able to perform. Maybe a marathon?

Anyway, I’ve played basketball 1-on-1 for hours a day and been fine the next as a kid.

6 hours of one-on-one basketball as an 18-year-old is at least as hard

I’m objective. Not a I die-hard Syracusen fan. But kinda a fan. So MAYBE a bit pro-Syracuse. You lost to Houston because of poor free throw shooting.

Period. Not even a close game otherwise. You guys would have won that one ez.

End of the Houston game when we had a chance to win it they totally blew the opportunity because they had nothing set up from the Coach. He’s terrible.

I hate hearing being tired, spend 8 weeks in basic training. Try and tell a drill Sargent you're tired after a 15 mile hike when he says drop and give me 50 pushups.

Michigan, ISU, and Kansas are probably the only three teams I can think off the top of my head walking away from this thing feeling really good about themselves. Probably left someone out.

The next tier are the programs that know their guys aren’t cut for 3 games in 3 days versus high quality opponents.

The final tier is the sky is falling. Would be interesting to hear the narrative if they’d beat Houston, lost a close one to Kansas, and got whooped by ISU. I think more would be in the tier 2 category.

A really good outing, or flat out win is essential versus Tennessee.

And the other teams did not play 3 games in a row?

Coaching. In the compensation and NIL era do players just come for the money and don't care as much about the quality of the coaching or the opportunity to win?

We may have already done it, but there is always the goal of making a record truly unbreakable
I’ve seen 4 airballs this year. 2 by both JJ and Kyle.

Unbelievably difficult to pull off.
