Players SU can’t afford to lose this offseason

I like Cook too when Angeli is healthy. Every thing I’ve heard though is that there’s a chance he might not be back
The WRs have been ineffective with Collins. Collins has made some bad throws... but they were catching Angeli's bad throws in highlight reel fashion. Cook dropped a very catchable one against Miami.

In fairness, when you go from 8 targets a game to 2, it is hard to get a rhythm. I am not sure how many plays were intended to target each WR... but they are not getting touches. And that falls on the coaches not getting these guys involved with screens, etc.

But Cook and Gill have dropped too many catchable passes from Collins. They need to step up even more to help Collins... and instead regressed.

Disappointing if it happens but I would not be shocked
He’s been the biggest disappointment for me this season. From what we heard in the preseason, I thought he would be dynamic and a big play waiting to happen every time he touched the ball. He’s been far from that. He’s fumbled and dropped too many balls.

They were both probably so shocked that a ball was even thrown anywhere near them that they forgot what to do.

I can see around 25 kids going into the portal this year. Another big class coming in and the written on the wall will be there for a bunch of them. Another factor is to see if we go all the way up to 105 scholarships or not.
We need turnover at a few spots (QB room) and we will be barren at other spots.
It's going to be buys portal year and a super important one.
This is shaping up to be the most loaded transfer portal we’ve ever seen in college football. If you had a strong season in the Group of Five or even at the FCS level, you’re almost guaranteed to hit the portal. I expect Syracuse to be major buyers, especially on the offensive and defensive lines.

JW said we are staying at 85 scholarships. They can’t afford to lose NIL funds for extra scholarships.

With schools now providing around $13-$15 million dollars to NIL, nothing will come cheap. The competition will be fierce. Some schools may just focus on a couple of positions to fill weaknesses on their team. If you need a high quality quarterback, you will have to overpay. Fran needs at least another $8-10 million dollars to keep the players he wants and still have funds available to get high quality, difference makers in the portal. Schools looking to hire new coaches are being told by coaches they want $30 million for rosters. I wouldn’t count on getting top level portal players. It appears Fran is looking at some JUCO players. They might come at a cheaper price.

I'm not confident Angeli will be 100% next year. We need to make a move and grab St. Clair from Ohio State. Offer $10 mil for 2 years. $4.7mil for 2026, $5.3 mil for 2027.
We only offer one year deals. All reports are saying Angeli is doing very well in his recovery.
I can't us putting up almost $5 million for a just in case QB let alone a kid that has not real snaps...we don't want another Collins.

I’m not saying we need top-50 guys in the portal, but just to fill a few holes, I believe the 2026 recruiting class will have plenty of kids ready to contribute right away. We do have some areas that need attention—guard, offensive tackle, one or two edge rushers, a couple of defensive tackles, and a safety—but the focus should be on quality, serviceable players, not necessarily elite recruits. The 2025 class will be a year older with more experience, and our highest-rated class in 20 years is coming in ready to make an impact. If we can lock down the trenches, the sky’s the limit—ACC champs, baby!

St. Clair was the #1 overall recruit in the 2025. He would be starting if he were here.
Does he even want to leave Ohio State?
Also, the bar is fairly low for QB competitions here…

My hot take is that Yasin Willis is supremely talented but the running scheme is just not a good match for him right now.

Hopefully they change things around. At the same time his pass catching has been terrible and I hope he improves on that.
It’s the lequint allen situation all over again. Everyone claiming he’s bad and overrated under Dino, then Fran comes in changes the scheme a bit and boom he has a fantastic year and proves how talented he is. Willis will be the same, just need Nixon to learn how to call an offense for the players he has not the ones he wants.

Not sure about that. Nixon had some good play calls where Willis literally did not run through the hole right in front of him in short yardage situations. You cannot teach understanding a game situation. Willis had a bad penalty against Clemson, fumble against Miami. Failed to make right cut on two long runs where TD was right there for the taking. Dropped passes. How is that Nixon? Nixon’s issue was not getting WRs involved, not usage of Willis.

I don't disagree. It needs to be a power downhill scheme for Yasin.

The Lequint Allen part is revisionist history. Allen ran for more yards in 2023 than 2024. He had more recieving yards and TDs in 2024 because we upgraded at QB and the whole offense was so much better. People didn't say Allen wasn't good after 2023, just that he didn't have great speed. That was also said in 2024. And it was true both years and is still true now. But he is highly skilled and has the heart of lion which is why he is a pro.

Regarding Willis, I'm pretty much with you. He's not perfect, but he is good. Put him behind the better offensive lines that we play against in an offense that values running the ball and his perception would be very different. I see good RBs miss cuts that could get them more yards every week in both collegs and the NFL.

Nil donations may be down after this season. Hopefully the big donors see the potential and take into account the qb situation.

When did that change, are we going to need to literally cut ties with a lot of players, especially with such a large class coming in let alone not one signed transfer portal player yet? I do not see how that could occur did we miss the bus again?

Players can't officially enter the portal until January. Unless the coach got fired.

100% true. But we need do to find a solid portal qb that can keep the train rolling, so as to not be caught with our pants down again next year if it comes to that.
