Playmakers

Where are they? Playmakers are what separate average teams to top 30 teams. We have none on either side of the ball. You can't win with a bunch of possession or program guys. I'm not talking on just offense either. You need playmakers on defense. Anyone that can step up and make a big play when you need it. Perfectly example was the INT that Reddish had down the sidelines. Perfect coverage, ball in hands, and the Maryland wr takes it away leading to a td. Same with Crume dropping the easy INT. Difference between having the ball on the 50 and having the ball on the 5. Broyld dropping an easy td. We just don't seem to have anyone who has the ability to step up and make a big play. I think Ron Thompson can be that guy on defense, but he needs to play. Welsh doesn't do much, start Thompson. I don't think we forced any turnovers today, and it feels we have been poor in that area for a while. Same with Erv on offense. Find a way to make sure he touches the ball 10 times. We had 600 yards, but few explosive plays. You can't count on 10 plus play drives time after time. Be in with the run or in the slot. Needs to be addressed in recruiting going forward.

I agree 1,000% with the Ron Thompson assessment. Get that kid on the field as much as possible. I get that Welsh has a great motor, but he doesn't have a whole lot else. I appreciate that he's a hard worker, but he doesn't make plays. We need guys who can make an impact and Ron Thompson is definitely 1 of those guys.

Shouldn't Estime and Custis switch positions? Have the quick , shifty guy get the screens and the big, tall, long-armed guy go over the middle to catch high passes from the QB who lacks accuracy?

I mean people are quick to look at his rushing stats and say WOW but Hunt would rather run in a TD than throw it to a WR/TE for a TD.
I'm a little concerned about that actually. It's great he's such a threat, but... other guys want the glory too. If it doesn't start getting spread around, I think there will likely be some frustration.

I think we've got plenty of playmakers. What we need are better coaches. I actually liked the overall game McD called this week generally, but the needless rotation of guys is killing me, not putting guys in situations to succeed is killing the players and what appears to be a total lack of special teams coaching is killing the team's chances of winning. More important, the total failure to be able to teach these WR how to block is clear. This is a systemic problem and it is evident in just about every single play.

Who are the playmakers? By playmakers I mean someone who can step up and make a big play when needed, be it an interception, forced fumble, sack, big run, big catch,or just someone who is a threat to take it to the house every time they touch the ball, etc...I just don't see it. We have guys who can do some things here or there, but few guys with big play ability.

As for the wide receivers blocking I put that more on the OC. I mean who do you expect when you are consistently asking 180lb wr's who have really never been asked, or taught properly to block? The offensive line is the strength of the team, i'd rather see them be asked to do their jobs, especially when we are abusing the opponent. I remember 2 straight series in the 2nd half where we picked up a few first downs, and then one 1st down we tried going wide for a 5 yard loss. Then we are behind the chains in both drives. Just doesn't make sense to me.

No Broyld for ND is bad. Granted he has his drops, he gets open over the middle. That's where hunt likes to throw the ball.

what is it with the rotation complaints.. game 3 was vastly different than game 1-2 in how we played people. we went with 3-4 wr most of the game until AB got hurt. we went with 2 RB most of the game except for a handful of plays.

Well those handful of plays turned out to be negative plays at crucial times.

Or maybe our offensive line isn't as physical people here seem to think. I more concerned with our S&C program. We lack the true road graters in general as 'nova proved that on the goal line.
