Plaza 44 Ceremony

So, no one is even putting this on Periscope or anything? Really?

"I've got a great idea - let's unveil our new statues, and let Jim Brown and Floyd Little speak just before the unveiling, but let's make sure as few people hear what they have to say as possible!"
"That's brilliant!"

Should of had this earlier in the fall as originally planned, if not solely for the probable weather related reasons only. Another public blunder by the powers that be...

I hate to nitpick, but the bases for these statues look like a total afterthought? Looks like some cost savings measures were taken here. Again, just nitpicking.

Not just you. Hard to tell without seeing it up close, but maybe it will age better. I also don't like the redundant duplicate names.

I wonder if the 44s are just shined up for the unveiling and will turn more brown over time.

That said, they look great.

Definitely looks like an afterthought. Especially with the name on the statue and then immediately below it on the base. Kind of looks like a concession stand sign at a Little League game.

Maybe Coyle was out sick when this was planned and they let Gross plan it? ;)

The base nameplat actually looks like the cheapo option of a LL participation trophy. I mean, i dont want to be that guy that bashes every thing SU athletics does, but it does look cheap. At a minimum it looks like two different teams were involved in the project, the guy who made/designed that syatues, and the guy who made/designed the bases. And neither talked to each other.

The bases as solid granite. The program was scheduled this week because it was tied into Veteran's Day. Ben was a honored veteran and Jim Brown was a member of the army reserves. It was very well done and it was one of the best ceremonies I've ever attended. First class all the way. The statues are beautiful. There were so many of Ben's former players there to honor him and his memory. Jim looks great, but he's moving pretty slow today. Floyd just lights up a room. Had a chance to meet Floyd's grandson who he says will wear the #44 someday. If you get a chance, you need to drive out to Manley and take a look at everything. The chancelor made a comment during the introductions that we won our first national championship in 1959, but IT WON'T BE OUR LAST.
