Here's my uneducated, arm chair QB assessment of what needs to change with our passing game.

If we barely ever move the pocket around, it is a lot easier to defend the pass. I would like to see it move around a lot more.

all we did last year was move the pocket - or at least we moved Nassib out of the pocket a lot with all those bootlegs and roll outs.

what i'd like to see is nassib step up into the pocket buying 3 more seconds allowing his receivers to come out of their breaks.

That's not true, the first pass of the game was to the right side line on a naked boot, off of play action, where the WR's ran outs at three levels and Wales ran a crossing pattern from the left.

Love that play, they should run that more often.

that's one thing that is discouraging. we have some nice plays, succesfull plays, and we don't go back to them enough. I thought that was part of this years plan, to run the plays that work more often.

meh. i like the pocket in the middle of the field so that we can throw to the whole field.

now if nassib is only going to look at one receiver, there's not that much harm in rolling him that way. but that's not ideal for me

That was the play, it was a screen, and it wasn't clean.

There is too much traffic when they run those. One of the plays that cost them the Rutgers game last year.

I couldn't see it that well and thanks...it's still a good sign that it worked because our screens a more than a tad rough usually.

Yes, but if the D knows that Nassib is always going to be right in the middle, doesn't that make it easier to design a pass rush?

I don't recall very many plays where we moved the pocket against Pitt.

I don't think Nassib throws very well on the run, I also don't think he does a very good job seeing the field if he's on the run. So if we move the pocket, we still need to do it in a way that allows him to stop and set before he throws. He'd be better off, as others have said, by stepping up in the pocket and still being able to keep his eyes on what's out there. Part of that will be on the OL obviously.

I dont want to come off critical but I will. There is no reason to move the pocket. Like someone mentioned above, when you role out right or left you cut down half the field. I think the bigger issue is improving Nassib's pocket presence. He has no presence of pressure, or when to step up to buy another second or two. If we could teach him to do the simple things in the pocket, then we wouldn't need to move the pocket. You move the pocket when you have a weak offensive line, and now that everyone on the line is healthy, it is a relatively strong line.

If Ryan had the pocket presence and poise of Sunseri he'd have a chance at AA status. It kills us when he gets happy feet.

Agreed, not happening. That is why are offense is somewhat limited. But moving the pocket is not the answer. Need Nassib's eyes up at all times, he doesn't do that when he runs. Also he doesn't move well in a normal pocket, how is he going to be rolling out. Also, the O-line is a strength this year with everyone finally healthy, no reason to roll out, let them block their guy.

Big pass to Lemon on the final drive, got us close to a 1st down, was a designed rollout.

Hate to say it, but the big pass play where we sold out and Sunseri heaved it down the middle, no way I see Ryan making that play. The throw, sure, but not the play. He'd have pulled it down, tried to escape, and got sacked.
