That's probably not entirely accurate.Well Dino learned the same lesson. 4 years too late.
He had the formula in 2018 for being successful here and then deviated from it by recruiting a pro style QB that required a strong OL to be successful at a school that recruiting strong OL's is very difficult to do. And that led to a 5-7 season and then the god awful Covid year which basically broke his back. He never was the same coach after that year.Bad take. He just didn't recruit well enough at the skill positions. We were a QB and a couple good WRs from being really effective.
Gergs offense was never going to work
I am very curious who the OC is. If he's any good, he'll leave, but so will Brown
I agree with this. We're never going to out talent the big boys running the same stuff as them, so let's get weird.True.
When Jake C hired Coach Mac, he did it because MacPherson's UMass teams ran a pro-style offense - they threw the ball.
Jake wanted to bring a passing offense to the Dome.
After four years, Coach Mac figured out that he was never going to get the kind of personnel needed to run a pro-style offense.
He brought George DeLeone to Syracuse for the purpose of installing an option offense. An offense similar to the option offense that Coach Maloney ran.
That is the lesson of this program.
I suspect that we will probably never have the personnel needed to run a traditional pass-oriented offense.
I suspect that we will probably need to run a gimmick offense - like the "freeze option" or the Wildcat offense that worked pretty well this season.
The point about super agent Jimmy Sexton was revealing. He doesn't have time to rep position coaches that aren't superstars. He bought Fran stock early, which is telling.Quick summary of some key details:
- Brown [from the Georgia perspective] was a rising star
- His agent only reps head coaches, but represented Brown because he is recognized as being so high potential
- He is an ace recruiter -- would succeed no matter where he is, no matter what the level
- He prefers playing a 4-2-5 defense
Hopefully Fran and his family fall in love with Syracuse and are here twenty years leading our transition into the B10.
pass oriented and pro style aren't synonyms to meTrue.

If Brown has half the success we think and doesn't get Wildhacked, he'll pass on 4 of the next 5 jobs he's offered in the ESPN app streaming era.Do fans of every school worry about a new coach leaving in 3/4 years before he has even officially started the job? The defeatism of Syracuse fans is amazing... I miss Igor
I mean id say more of good offensive lineman. Schrader is a good qb just destroyed his body from being killed on the field.Bad take. He just didn't recruit well enough at the skill positions. We were a QB and a couple good WRs from being really effective.
I love this, but hate I use it in every day conversation as much as I do.
Perfect, that's precisely the attitude we should have. It’s 3/4 years always and JW knew that
It’s either 3/4 years and we are VERY successful and winning and will have a higher flow of $$$
Or its 3/4 years we’re not successful and brown will be fired and we will try the process again
Marrone threw the ball in 2012.pass oriented and pro style aren't synonyms to me
Gergs wanted to do the West Coast offense which is so hard to get down for professionals much less college players with limited practice
Most college pass oriented offenses are so easy in comparison.
Wide OL splits make it hard to double team the 6* defensive tackle that can kill your 600 million dollar QB so they don't want that
NFL teams think it's too simple which is why I think college teams should do it
I don't know much about what Mac wanted to do as the start, hair before my time
Marrone threw the ball in 2012.
He used tempo and had a very smart QB.
The OL play is why I wanted Marrone to return for a second stint. That offense had a lot of good things, not just QB. One of the better OLs we've ever had.
We threw a lot, but we also ran for a lot. Especially in the snowy bowl game.
