Poetry in Motion...

I’ll be flying my socks at full staff for the game on Saturday. He made the game of basketball seem so effortless. Smooth doesn’t even begin to describe how he played. You could watch a game and then realize he had the quietest 30 pts in the building that night. What a gut punch. Thoughts and prayers to his family, friends and teammates. And to all of you. 😢

I’m just devastated. I helped put Lawrence into the New Hampton School Hall of Fame from where we both graduated HS before attending SU. Lawrence and I bonded over that. Plus I introduced him at a football game to our alumni from AZ who was at the game celebrating his 90th birthday. You may remember that Kim Infanti interviewed him on the big screen. Lawrence sat with Jim for 15 minutes talking about his grandmother.

This is awful. He is my favorite player in Cuse history.

When I tried to walk on my freshman year he was back in the Cuse scrimmaging and Coach Hopkins introduced me to him. It was like meeting one of my idols. Ran into him a second time when he was playing/coaching Boeheim's Army (believe it was the first year they participated in TBT). They had a game in Chicago on DePaul's campus and I was wearing my Cuse 21 jersey. As he was walking up the stands next to me he stopped to appreciate I was rockin his jersey.

RIP to a legend!

I wore the knee high socks in high school because of him

Thankfully he saw his jersey raised in the dome, so well deserved. This loss is a shock and gut punch for sure. 💔

Such a shame. The brief syracuse.com article does not mention that he was doing some excellent work in Syracuse before his recent move to DC. Not a native to the area but still was working hard on the ground level to make this place better. He will be greatly missed and should be remembered for his accomplishments off the court as well.

Think about this...
His unfortunate and ill-timed timeout call upended an upset bid against defending national champion Arkansas in March 1995. But he was so good, smooth and relatable, everyone Orange absolutely LOVES and CHERISHES the guy for the next 30+ years of his life. That is actually beautiful.

He decidedly resides within the inner circle of Syracuse basketball icons.

And his passing is a true stinger.

Has to hit Red hard, having been a multi year teammate of his too.
