I am trying to determine whether I will have Saturday's free next fall or not. Do folks on this board think Shafer's seat is hot and there is any chance that he is fired after the season. Note that I am not asking whether you think it should be warm or not I am asking whether there is any chance that it is warm. I have zero connections to the university and I live 1000 miles away and I know nothing about nothing. My belief is that HCSS's future is tied directly to Gross's. If Gross gets canned then Shafer is gone... If Gross survives so does Shafer. Unfortunately I can't imagine Gross getting canned given the field hockey and soccer team. I personally think keeping Shafer for one more year is just putting off the inevitable and could push this program back into bottom 10 status that we reached during the GROB years.

I wish beccause he is a terrible coach but I doubt it...

It's warm but not hot.

When you punt on fourth and 1 from midfield, you're sensing the heat.

The only way SS is severing his relationship with SU between now and next fall is if there are things that we are unaware of lurking out there. I've got no reason to suspect there are so I'd say the odds of his returning for Year 3 are about 99%.

I have no doubt that he returns next year.

But I don't see us winning more than 5 games next year, so his future isn't bright.

no way is HCSS in Danger of losing his job. Not because of results, but because this is SU. What is his buyout? I wonder if we would get close with a kickstarter. Would the university take the donation to fire him? Would we want gross hiring ANOTHER football coach?

im avoiding looking to next year until we see how the acc rolls out our conference games

After next Saturday's game ends and the season is officially over, his seat becomes officially red hot cause next year is his make or break year

Only if he brought up ISIS when he met recently with the NCAA.

I'm not sure it matters when we play some of the teams.

Gotta figure we lose to FSU, Clemson, Louisville, Virginia and LSU.

Gotta hope we beat Rhody, Central Mich. and Wake.

That's all I got.

Virginia? I get the others but Virginia is middle of the road

I highly doubt he is going anywhere after this season, but I don't think he helped himself with the way he handled the McDonald demotion. Next season the seat will be red hot.

I agree on both counts. We will see what coach can do

Well imo we should fire him now and hire Fleck

That won't happen though

You want to hire a guy that has a lifetime 9-14 record in the MAC?

Uh, okay.
Do just a little reaserch on this!! He had possibly the worst team ever in cfb last year and than all of the sudden boom 8-3 this year. WMU alums love the guy and the fanbase is buzzing.

I mean hey if you like being blown out by Pitt... ! :(

If we could get a legit HC I would make the move. I like what Doc Holliday has done turning Marshall around and he could use Syracuse as an audition to get an SEC job.
I don't think Gross is going to fire Scott Shafer. We are screwed for another year.

Agree on the final point and, given that, right now have a hard time seeing why I should continue to travel 4 hours each way to games and contribute $500+ each weekend to SU and the CNY economy. I suspect a large number of season ticket holders will be having the same doubts. With only a few exceptions the last two years SU should have been paying me to attend games at the Dome; once inside it has not been an uplifting experience.

The game is at Virginia.

Unless there's vast improvement, no chance we win there.

Most of the people on this board are season ticket holders and I like you live 800 miles from CNY. I won't tell you to continue spending your money as its your decision. I get frustrated as much as you but I remember my time as a student and the good times on campus to justify continuing my tickets.
The product has been pathetic this year and if Syracuse was serious about FB Scott Shafer is canned but he is getting year 3 I just hope barring a bowl next year he doesn't get year 4.

Chris is an A+ poster for me but he is giving injuries as the excuse for our terrible year. I would say injuries have hurt but SS and his offensive coaching staff suck.
