If there was any doubt heading into the 2025 lacrosse season who the No. 1 and 2 programs were, there probably wasn’t much after Week 1.

No. 1 Boston College and No. 2 Northwestern cruised in ranked matchups to start the season, part of an epic First Friday of four Top 25 matchups.

Now they’ll battle each other for the top spot next as they meet Saturday in Evanston.

No. 3 North Carolina (14-2 over James Madison) and No. 4 Michigan (13-5 over Jacksonville) did their part to flex too, and No. 5 Florida had the most dramatic of the big wins beating Johns Hopkins. The Gators and the Tar Heels meet Saturday, too, making two Top 5 matchups in one day.

No. 15 Stanford and three teams that were unranked but now voted into the Top 25 —No. 23 Army, No. 24 Ohio State and No. 25 UConn— were big winners in the Week 1 poll.

6. Syracuse (1-0)
Led by veterans Olivia Adamson and Emma Ward in the Orange’s first win, there was a lot of new faces that also performed strongly which Syracuse will need after graduating so many starters last spring.
