Maryland is up to No. 5 in the latest KANE Women’s DI Media Poll.

The Terrapins, after a season-opening loss, have won four-straight including this weekend’s win against James Madison. They are just ahead of Syracuse —which beat the Terps and is more battle-tested with a run of Top 10 opponents, beating Stanford on Friday.

The top four teams seem set: Boston College, North Carolina, Northwestern and Yale.

Carolina has No. 9 Clemson looming, and Yale has a tough stretch with No. 25 UConn midweek and Stanford over the weekend.

Duke rose four spots after its win against Clemson, and Michigan is out of the Top 10.

6. Syracuse (4-4)

No team is as battle-tested and thrown into the fire as the Orange. I wonder about the whirlwind of emotions a young team is going through just over the past week-and-a-half. If you’re a freshman, how do you deal with the constant barrage of really good teams and the lows and highs of two OT games with different results in four days. No team has as much of a spotlight as Syracuse; there is no army of communications students asking questions postgame anywhere else, and no active message board chatter. With as many freshmen as they are relying on, that’s a lot to deal with. If they can focus ahead, they will get better all years.
