Ok you're Herm Frazier and Coach Babers...get me 2 OOC games for 17-18-19 and 3 OOC games for 19. Your goal is to build an attractive home schedule of 7 games. Look at the ACC schedule, what is already scheduled and find some OOC opponents. You must consider the casual CNY bandwagon fan. Don't worry about alumni more than 2 hours away...they don't drive to the games anyways.

You need to have a minimum of 3 games that are likely to be wins.

Navy, UB, Colgate. Schedule like the SEC and Rutgers does from now on. Although none of them would play NAVY.

I want the yearly 1-AA team to be a crappy 1-AA team as we can then get more players in. Red is what I would do.

2017: Central Michigan, @LSU, Rhode Island/Wagner, Buffalo( 2 for 1 deal)
2018: @Notre Dame, UConn, Rhode Island/Wagner, @Buffalo
2019: Holy Cross, @Maryland, Buffalo, Temple(home/home)
2020: @Wisconsin, Rhode Island/Colgate/Wagner, @Temple, Old Dominion(2 for 1 deal)

What about playing Delaware, who would be a fresh opponent that provides some recruiting exposure in the mid-Atlantic? The travel logistics from Newark (DE) to Syracuse aren't difficult (5.5 hr bus ride). There was a time when the Blue Hens would have been a dangerous 1-AA foe, but since Dave Brock took over for KC Keeler, they have been a lower-tier CAA team. This would be a good time to play them.

Biggest thing I discovered...7 game home schedules are going to be much tougher. Newer schools in great recruiting areas (Old Dominion/UTSA/FIU, etc...) garner home n home series

UNC, Wake and ECU all scheduled home and home series with Old Dominion...don't think Cuse could get a 2 for 1

If they get home/home then I would consider UNC-Charlotte or Georgia State who we could likely get 2 for 1s with.

I would love for them to play my alma mater UNC Charlotte, esp if they could get a 2 for 1

Other than that I would love to see us play more Mid West (Purdue, IU, Illinois, Middle Tennessee, Vandy) teams since thats where I now reside...

My priorities, in descending order:
  1. Though the risk of losing to UB outweighs the advantage of a local game for our fans and recruiting, I'd still love to see us play them on a permanent 2 for 1 or 3 for 1 schedule.
  2. I love the old school appeal of playing Colgate every three or four years.
  3. Bring on the best P-5 opponents that will play us 1 for 1.
  4. We ought to get back to semi-regular scheduling of the service academies.
  5. A Patriot League team every other year will give us good sampling of northeast football.

2. Agreed
3. Agreed
4. I'd love to...but Navy is busy with the AAC now. Army is tough to get...SU should still try to get both. USAFA is ok for a 1 for 1 as a one time series...no real recruiting benefit.
5. Agreed love to mix in the Patriot schools...also a CAA school like Nova.

Baylor just played UB and played them in a home and home. I don't see any indication they are scheduling 2 for 1s or 3 for 1s with anyone these days.

Looks like they are going with a strategy of scheduling one away game buy with a P5 opponent a year these days.

It was Penn State in 2015. It will be BC in 2016, and Minnesota in 2017. Kansas State announced in Febuary of 2015 that they are paying UB $900K to get them to play there in 2020. Our staff missed all these opportunities, asleep at the switch again.

It looks like UB has their P5 buy out game slot open for 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022 and beyond. IMHO, scheduling a buy out game with them is a no brainer. UB might bring a few fans to a game scheduled at the Dome and they are good enough to make the game meaningful and helpful for preparing for the conference schedule. We have to find a way to consistently play 7 home games a season and buy outs are a great option towards that end.

The damage caused by the consistent awful OOC scheduling by the SU athletic department in recent years is huge. It has IMHO surely prevented us from going to a couple of bowl games.

I hope Coyle addresses it soon.

    • West Virginia (maybe not a likely win, but our home schedule needs a boost)

2018

    • Villanova

    • Penn State (by Coach Babers's third season I expect us to be favored in this matchup)
2019
Home: Boston College, Clemson, Wake Forest, Pittsburgh
Road: Florida State, Louisville, NC State, Duke

    • 08/31 - Holy Cross

    • Georgia (we will be ready to compete with a upper tier SEC team by '19)

I tried to keep a decent mix of games we should win and games that average fans may be interested in seeing.

here is what my mock 2016 syracuse schedule worked out to within my acc mock:
9/2 colgate*
9/10 @ wake forest
9/17 South Florida*
9/24 @uconn*
10/1 Vs ND @ Metlife*
10/8 bye week
10/15 NC State
10/22 @ clemson
10/29 Virginia tech
11/5 Louisville
11/12 @pittsburgh
11/19 Florida State
11/25 or 11/26 @ Boston College*

I bet one of the American games the USF home game or UConn road game will be Friday night ESPN affairs.

I also I would bet one of NC State/Virginia Tech/Louisville will be played on a Friday night.

I think UConn game and Virginia Tech games will be played on Friday night.

Also Florida State likes scheduling a 1-AA before their game against Florida so I highly doubt we play the 2nd to last week. I also highly doubt the ACC will give us home/road/home/road to end the year. I think we will either see 2 home or 2 road games in a row.

With past precedent I expect the ND game to be followed by one of Louisville/Clemson/Florida State.

Wow, that is impressive you tried to do the schedules for the whole ACC.

I think they are going to try and roll over the schedule from 2015. They seem to like to limit change from year to year as much as possible.

You can lock and load that VT game being October 15th.

It's the one game I want to attend, and that is my wife's bday, so it won't work out.

Looks like it's boring Louisville and their boring 15 fans that come to the Dome again for me.

HEY LOUISVILLE!!!

I ask because I don't know the answer, but is SU in a position to schedule guarantee games for football? Ticket sales are flat and September, when we'd likely play the non-conference team, has become increasingly difficult to get fans in the door, further decreasing gameday revenue.

Seems to me that if we were to pay Buffalo $900,000 to come here, we'd lose money. It's one thing for the basketball program to pay $75,000 to bring in a tomato can; football might not be able to justify an appearance fee ten times as large.
