Shafer on Mitch Kimble: "I always felt he had the ability to do some stuff, same with Austin, just didn’t have enough."

Shafter thanked fans/community for staying "throughout the course of a difficult season and disappointments through the course of things."

Shafer on not making a bowl: "It hurts. A difficult situation because that was one of those goals that we wanted to come back and reach."

Shafer complemented redshirt freshman Alex Hayes at right guard. Played well in his first career action.

RS freshman quarterbacks Mitch Kimble and Austin Wilson worked with OC Tim Lester to select 16 plays each to be used in the game today.

Kimble also ran the scout team this week in addition to his reps with the 1s.

Sean Hickey on not going to a bowl in his last season: "To know my Syracuse career ends in Boston is just not a good feeling."

Somehow missed this earlier, Mitch Kimble led Syracuse with 10 rushes and 50 yards gained. Raise your hand if you saw that one coming.

Syracuse football QBs Mitch Kimble, Austin Wilson worked with limited playbook in loss to Duke (PS: Bailey)

Once Syracuse learned that true freshman quarterback AJ Long would likely not be able to play on Saturday due to a nerve issue in his throwing shoulder, offensive coordinator Tim Lester approached redshirt freshmen QBs Austin Wilson and Mitch Kimble.

He asked them to cross off any plays from the playbook that they didn't want to run against No. 22 Duke. Then he circled back with the revised lists and asked the two to circle the 16 plays they were most comfortable with...
