Preseason AP / Coaches Polls

I think we are looking at 7 or 8 wins is most likely but It has a possibility for more though. A drop to 6 wins is possible with significant injury pieces but I really think our floor is a lot higher this year than most years because of solid depth. As long as we can avoid serious injuries to Shrader, Enrique Cruz, Gadsden and probably I. Johnson we will be pretty darn good. Those would be injuries that would hurt us the most. But a bowl season seems like a very sure bet to me.
Yes. Our weakest depth spot, to me, is OL. If we lose a couple guys there we will be in trouble.

I'd say that's still our weakest unit, and arguably the most important to this season.

If (when) we start 4-0, we will be ranked for Clemson.
no chance. it'll take getting receiving votes off of the army game. it's a long shot.

the AP/College have zero respect for us unless we beat someone with some teeth. After we beat Purdue we have a shot at some receiving votes.

Oklahoma has no right being ranked to start year
I'm a huge OU fan and I agree. On paper the team looks decent, though I can't trust Gabriel and the coaching. An "others receiving votes" was what I thought.

But the AP/Coaches poll and the CFP poll aren't related at all. It's completely different groups of people.

And no team with two losses has ever made the playoff.
LSU won the championship with 2 losses in 2007.

I just think their coach will keep them and their talent from hitting their potential. Dudes a great DC, not sure if he is a program running guy

Why isn’t unc at home? Id mark that down as a W if so. But yeah thats worse than a toss up on the road
I think they lost their top 3 skill players on offense and return a defense that makes 2019 Cuse blush

That's the concern I have also. They did re-vamp the entire DL through the portal, which had to happen. He's on a short leash this year and needs to show out.

That's fair.

But I think this unit goes 9 deep this year -- so it might be more accurate to say that they are the most unproven / unit with the biggest question marks at this point.

But like DL last year, who entered the season mostly unproven but proved to be a team strength, it's entirely possible that the OL will blow those expectations out of the water on the depth of improved depth / talent / health compared to last season.

Anyone else think the Army game can be a sloppy one and a trap game ? Feel like it could be mucked up game and looking ahead to Clemson. Dunno why it worries me

Yeah, aren't W Mich, Purdue and Army all teams in transition or am I mistaken?
Yes and if predictions are correct, W Mich is going to be pretty terrible. Army has a solid D coming back but brand new offense. Purdue has a new staff and they sustained major losses on offense

NC does have an awful defense, but they have one of the Heisman favorites at QB. Their offense will be very good.

They beat 6 P5 teams last year with that QB AND NFL weapons

We beat 5 P5 teams returning our skill players and an actual P5 defense

I’m confident

Purdue is the key, we win that and are 4-0 watch out, this could be a 8 or 9 win team. I have the only sure loss as FSU, followed by North Carolina and then Clemson. my prediction is 7 wins but i can certainly see more.
Clemson could be the best time in CFB & Cuse the worst and I still wouldn’t make it a sure loss. Usually play them tough and last year was a literally epic proportions choke & should have been a W.

I have a feeling that UNC is going to go sideways this season.

Probably due to an injury, but I see them and possibly FSU having a letdown season vs expectations

If you believe in karma, then FSU is definitely due to have issues this year.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful to beat them @ FSU this year?

edit: I hope they lose every game from now on.

The 4-team playoff. There was a National Championship game (2-team playoff) starting in 1998.
That wasn't a playoff and the selection process was completely different.

Who is everyone’s pick for preseason top 10 that finishes outside the top 25 this year?

Still--LSU played for, and won, a national championship with 2 losses.
That wasn't the discussion. You're moving the goal posts. The discussion was making the playoff. The playoff committee has never selected a two loss team for the playoff.
