All of the Orange’s offensive linemen rank at the bottom of the ACC at their respective position in PFF grade. Their best linemen has been left guard Chris Elmore and he ranks just 14th among 19 qualifying ACC left guards in PFF grade at 56.2.

I don't doubt that we are near the bottom of FBS but how accurate can these things be? IMO it isn't all that different than recruiting rankings. Has nothing to do with our place and everything to do with how can you really judge #30 vs #75, just like with recruiting?

There what 50 games a week? And 150 plays a game? Then you need to watch each play a minimum 5x to take a look at each player on each play. You would need a full time staff of a least a dozen evaluators to pull that off. And even then those dozen people will defer at times on how they evaluate because they are humans. So how can there be consistency?

BTW if BYU is #2 then Coastal Carolina must have an all time great DL because they got constant pressure last game.

Don't think it is the same thing at all. Every team grades every player on every snap. There is a reason they do it. Not that hard to do, especially for lineman.

Buffalo is the 3rd rated OL in the country.

Mike Novitsky is their starting C. He is a sophomore from Victor, near Rochester. 6’5 295.

Jake Fuzak is a senior from Williamsville, near Buffalo. 6’5 300.

You have to take level of opposition into account and there is no way in the world UB has one of the top 20 OLs in the country, but still, both of these guys would have started for us and helped us a lot.

We have to do a better job identifying and developing OL.

They have 600 employees. They sell scouting reports to all NFL teams, and 80 FBS teams. They have about 60 that grade the players. You can subscribe for $8 month.

Line may be more difficult, as they can't be certain of the assignment, but as a group of 5 it should be accurate. They give a 0(neither good nor bad) if they cant determine the assignment. They use every angle, including all 22s. Each grade is reviewed by a sr. Analyst.

Level of play is not taken into account. A whiff is a whiff, a pancake a pancake. A team playing against poor opponents will benefit from that. Everyone will be taking a slightly different test, but the grades are how well the player executed against the opponents given. So a BYU may be highly graded based on a cupcake schedule. Doesn't take away that the individual linemen executed very well.

A zero grade is doing what is expected. -2 is complete failure, +2 is an awesome play. Its then put into an out of 100 scale.

Great points and insight.

Dino should go after their OL coach hard.

Interesting. I wonder if the schools share their film. Using the TV it is harder to evaluate. If they are paying for it might as well get accuracy.

I think the point is that every one of our offensive linemen grades poorly in the ACC - very poorly. I also think it relates to coaching as well.

I would like to see ranks by conference, which would solve the competition issue. If I find the time I might try to do it.

Going from 14th to 10th in the ACC would be a big one year jump. That would be a great sign for 2022 but would it be enough to get us to a Bowl in 2021? Especially without a dual threat QB? Do they have prior years? If so where were we in the Dino era?

How do you mean it isn't possible? It surely is

Well, based on what I have seen, we absolutely deserve to be ranked at the bottom of the ACC. The OL play has been consistently bad and often awful. Got a little better late in the season, but that was largely a function of adjustments the staff made to cover up the deficiencies of the offensive line.

Can't find prior years without subscribing. I am guessing it correlates to the other broad indicators.
Personally, I think we are going to have to rely on a better defense in 2021. 2022 would be the earliest I can see a vastly improved O line.
Bowling isn't out of the question next year with decent line and good QB play.

In terms of injury, Dino said all the guys that couldn't practice this year will be stagnant. Is that tempering expectations for next year? Ughh.

That's why it would be wise to get 2 more seasoned OL via Transfer/JUCO.

Didn’t we already use that free pass for this year or is it one you’re allowed to use multiple years?

Such a large part of OL play is coaching. Someone who really understands the concepts and technique.

Alignment/assignment/technique.

know where to line up, what to do & how to do it. If all your guys are on the same page with that, you’re off to a great start.

I’d look to upgrade the coaching there if I was DB.

do they really use the all 22 or are they given it by the teams? In the past they said they didnt have it for all he teams and had to use tv game film.

anyone can get the pro all-22.. college not so easy unless teams are helping them
