Pro Football Focus line grades and rankings

Interesting. I wonder if the schools share their film. Using the TV it is harder to evaluate. If they are paying for it might as well get accuracy.
Says the use the all 22s, as well. A little more in depth here: (where I found that info)

I wonder what our QB grades were? Every position, for that matter.

yeah but in other stories they said they dont get them for all college games.. its pro football focus.. and yeah the do college but.. they also said of the 600 people only 60 are really trained on how to do it and only 2/3% of them can really do grading.. so 60 people are grading 100 games a week?

in college 150 plays a game of 22 players so 3000 plays and do 45min an hr for 8 hrs a day 6 days a week thats 1800 min.. so they figure out 2 plays a min.. thats barely even time to look at a play let alone a few times and grade it.. and thats only 1 game and each person has to do 2 to get it all done.

I believe the 2 to 3% are the sr. analysts that review. Either way, I believe they are a respected service.

Here's more. good and bad, back when they were smaller.

yes but in other stories I think its been reported the effort for the Pros is much more on spot.. less plays. less players. Shoot you would have a hard time even telling who is in a game half the time so many kids go in and out and the unis are so bad..

Does anyone disagree with the Oline grade? It seems that fantastic chart in the past, present, future post seemed to echo this, and these are far more in depth. (pass grades, run grades, etc...)

In terms of injury, Dino said all the guys that couldn't practice this year will be stagnant. Is that tempering expectations for next year? Ughh.

Yeah, that's not what you want to be hearing, coming off a 1-10 year.
"These guys aren't going to get any better."

And some of you bashed me for saying that we should hope for 4 wins next year, before we "demand" that we reach a bowl game.

Nahh. We can win more than 4. The most disturbing thing to me was PFFs elmo comment. Our best , ranked #14 at LG. Vett? Bergeron? Tis? Serv banged up. Ranked/graded lower with only 14 teams. Ouch.

Being that they can't factor in SOS the national ranking is kind of useless. A better rank would be within conference. We may be the worst but if we are the worst in the ACC, we should be close to Duke, FSU, and Miami. If we are 113 and those guys are Top 75 then I would question what they are doing.

Especially in a year where teams play limited OOC. The data is even more siloed

I don't doubt those grades. Don't believe they determine what the OL is going to look like next year.

Out of my projected two deep four never saw the field due to injury. Another wasn't available until the last third of the season. Bergeron is a two year starter that has never been part of an off season program here. Same with Tisdale. True freshmen Ilaoa saw limited offensive snaps late in the year. It was pretty evident that Servais was at least somewhat limited.

The rest of this years line was Rhino a converted FB and Vetterelo, who I can see losing the competition at center next year.

Not surprised in the least that is how the unit put on the field graded out this year.

FSU was ranked 107, Miami 77, Duke 72(only because of a couple decent players).

Grading should have nothing to do with SOS. You either beat the guy, or you didn't. A pancake is a pancake, whether you are SEC or MAC. That's their whole point. Just grading execution.

Can certainly debate whether lumping all teams together is a valid metric. However, how well they executed against the given opponents Is telling.

Lot easier to execute playing in the MAC than playing in the SEC.

I can't believe they have Duke that high. They struggle to run the ball and get sacked every other play. Someone has to be blowing their assignment more often than not.

I think allot goes into oline performance over the course of a season. I think a number of things can impede or improve the performance. Those could be both direct and indirect. I agree with what Money said in another thread and that's simply the oline needs to hear a new voice both teaching and pushing the players. That said what Cav has dealt with personally off the field with his wife's illness would challenge anyone. I would hope Dino and JW could do something (maybe reassign) so he could continue to keep his benefits while her health is addressed someway, somehow.

Duke had a couple grade well(injured after 6 games). Sure, tougher competition in the SEC.

The disturbing part, is only Elmore ranked top 14 in the ACC. (A starter). I find it hard to believe that we whiffed on every other oline recruit.

I know Tomcat has mentioned this guy:

UB's stats for sacks and tackles for loss allowed, yds per carry, 3rd down conversion percentage, and redzone are all top 25 the last two years.

Those are the stats where OL play is most apparent in my opinion. (Obviously scheme does have an impact)

Their RB scored 8 TDs in one game. More rushing TDs than we had all year. Some of that success is on him. Giving up 8 sacks in 2019 is impressive.

He did very well at NDSU (3 nattys) and decent at Wyoming.

Sure, we CAN win more than 4. I'm saying we should upset with Dino if we FAIL to reach 4 wins.

I don't think we can reasonably "expect" a bowl after a 1-10 season, or else "you're fired!", especially when we can't afford it for at least another year.

Nunes has an article on the OL. It says that PFF attributed 15/37 sacks as coverage sacks. I wonder how many of those were when TD was at QB? Also is that number a high number compared to the other ACC programs?

As to the player grades looks like Dakota and Bergeron give us some hope for next year. But what do we do at C? And how much of Servais' poor performance was injury vs talent? Wonder if he graded better in prior years? IMO he has been a disappointment the last 3 seasons. Will Bleich be healthy? And if healthy how good is he? Seems like we have three spots with question marks on the OL.

Servais was definitely banged up. A healthy Servais should be our best. No player received a passing grade in the run game. AFAIK Berg,Tis,Vett were healthy all year.

Silver lining...

Our FB is better at LG, even being underweight, than 5 other LG's that qualify. Heyooooo!
