Aside from the won loss record, these are things I saw this year that must be corrected;

1) poor tackling which was a problem all year but got really bad in the final three games
2) lack of a running game
3) poor line play for the most part
4) lack of team descipline(too many stupid penalties)
5) stop with all the bubble screens that were high risk with low reward(run 2 or three a game max unless defense is just unable to stop them)
6) situational play calling was sometimes just bizarre
7) lack of a power ground game inside the red zone

In short, we had a lot of problems that did not show much improvement this year, and it kind of explains why we won only four.

I actually think our tackling was pretty good this year, until we got injured and basically got beat up at the end of the year. Special shout out to Bennett who I thought was great at tackling.

2) lack of a running game
I think this is just personnel. ED was our best RB. Strick doesn't have the natural instincts to be a RB at this level, imo, at a high level. Moe should be in the slot.

3) poor line play for the most part
Talent. Honestly, I think we'll have a great OL in two years.

4) lack of team discipline(too many stupid penalties)
Team couldn't maintain towards the end of the year. Injuries, schedule was brutal, etc. However, this should have been better, overall, and should be something we improve next year.

5) stop with all the bubble screens that were high risk with low reward(run 2 or three a game max unless defense is just unable to stop them)
I think these are fine. It helps if we had WRs that could block like Miami's WRs and just better talent, overall.

6) situational play calling was sometimes just bizarre
Once ED went down, all bets are off on a functional offense. Separately, even with ED, he has limitations in his natural QB skills in terms of progression and choices on RPOs.

7) lack of a power ground game inside the red zone
Personnel and talent. Needs time.

1) Good is relative, I guess I have a higher standard
2) yes to some degree personnel, but also play design and execution(also blocking was less than great)
3) If not better by next year we will again not reach 6 wins
4) procedure penalties were a problem all year
5) Totally disagree here, bubble screens were intercepted twice for TDs and this week lost as fumble for score. Gains from screens were usually short yardage. The main purpose of running these is to open up plays over the middle of the field but we hardly ever used the middle of the field. I will admit I am biased against because I just hate the play.
6) I was not talking about late in season. Play calling left much to be desired all year.
7) Formations were never run that would give you a power game in the red zone. Personnel were never used to establish a goal line run game. You may be right but if you never try it how would you know if your personnel or talent could get the job done?

Seriously, some keep bringing up defensive injuries as an excuse, and here you are using it for the tackling. What injuries besides martin are you speaking of? Bc we had basically the same defensive 2 deep the last 3 games as we did for the Clemson, UM, and FSU games.

The players couldn’t tackle under your boy shafer either.

The first half of the season the DBs tackled the best they have in years. It was a marked improvement.

He isnt my boy and we also beat some big offenses with the SS aggressive scheme. Top 10 offenses led by Teddy B and Gino S. Also, we didn't give up 40/week and if we went down, we went down blitzing. I am also dumbfounded with how well the D played in that Clemson, UM, and FSU stretch...only to unravel down the stretch. It isnt depth bc martin was the only sig injury. Like i have said, there was something mental that happened to this team when ED got hurt and that shouldn't happen.

mental toughness lacking. last sentence is spot on.

Lots of stuff I disagree with in the OP, but I'll just pick one:

The DL was good/fine until the last 3 games. The OL conversely looked like they improved over the season.

I think the lines might surprise next season and will be flat out the strength of the team the year after.

I think over 30% of our starting D was playing injured.

Yeah, there was a post in one of the threads talking about how much guys were taped up and how some of our best guys were limping everytime they came off the field. Our injuries were not just limited to the weekly report.

I still blame that goofy hybrid offense from Shafer's time from hindering the development of strickland

maximize reps

I am going to add one:
I love the potential of our offense (and the running game IS coming), but we also have to begin to target the middle of the football field, 15-20+ yards down the field. If we REALLY want to spread "them" out, let's use the WHOLE field, as opposed to 70% of it.
