Experience is always a benefit but I do feel it has some to do with money. I’m not suggesting SU should have overpaid for qb3 but money does get kids to come to sit. Look at lsu and Oregon.

LSU Undergrad enrollment- 35,000
Oregon Undergrad enrollment- 20,000
Syracuse Undergrad enrollment- 15,000

Something tells me the Alumni base for Oregon and LSU are much larger than Cuse and therefore have more resources to pull from.

Oh yeah Oregon and LSU are also getting B10 and SEC media contract money...

We do not have the benefit of paying 3rd sting players at this current time. Just a reality of the situation folks.

They are also high on Zaid Lott. Fran in his signing day press conference compared the maturity of Lott to a redshirt sophomore. He made it a point to say he is also watched him play in person and that they did much more significant vetting.

BTW, I am fine with this pickup. I never thought that we would be getting two of Odom, Stokes, Dickens.
Yep - this is what I was hoping for at the #3, guy who has done it at a lower level as a starter with some success. I’d rather take that over a hypothetical with an upperclassman from a P4 that hasn’t done anything.

I think about it like this - alumni are lottery tickets. Sure, universities will get some donation back here and there from most, but the big game changer things, the kinds of stuff scoped to the level of a capital project (some of which just might be capital projects like new buildings, facilities, etc.) usually need one or more really big ticket backers. In other words, one of those lottery tickets hits.

More alumni = more lotto tickets = higher chance of finding deep enough pockets to do stuff

Truer words could not be spoken.

I think people forget that these schools have such a large alumni base it is far more easier for them to find big donors that are willing to donate big money.

This is why Syracuse holds its large donors in such high regard, there is far fewer of them.

Syracuse is slowly closing the gap but we arent even close to what some of these larger schools are at.

Yeah, I mean it's just a funky shaped math problem.

And I hate math.
