Guessing we have one spot open and the first to commit gets that spot.
Thankfully, Fran does not think this way. The QBs will all compete and the best will play. This is who Fran is and this is how SU should act if we want to compete at a high level.worried that a transfer like this might cause Jakhari to look at his options vs a 1 year rental
The longer I watched, the more impressed I was.
Fran made a point to say that trait that he’s looking for from a qb is “winner.” Can he feel confident on that point with a guy like Collins who hasn’t proven anything? I don’t have a pov, just trying to piece together what might actually happen.Guessing we have one spot open and the first to commit gets that spot.
Pretty sure we will not offer until they are on campus and the staff has a chance to see the players in person and ensure they are a good fit, in terms of skill, character and culture.
Exactly. We have no idea how good Jakhari is. Nobody should fret that we might lose him at this point. He could turn out to be good or he may not. Considering how young Jakhari is, what he has shown in games (nothing) and his recruiting ranking, what better option is going to be out there for Jakhari? Good programs have depth and multiple options at QB. Its how it is. If he wants a more guaranteed shot at playing this year he would need to go to a lower level. He can't be afraid of a little competition. Best player plays. We have to bring in at least one other options at QB this year and Fran knows this. I'm guessing Jahari understands this as well.Thankfully, Fran does not think this way. The QBs will all compete and the best will play. This is who Fran is and this is how SU should act if we want to compete at a high level.

I'm not sure you were trying to be condescending, but that's how it came off.
If you are from the school of "bring in talent and cultivate it," this approach can definitely be detrimental to high school recruiting, the QB room, etc. If your approach is bring in the best guy every year and let the chips fall where they may, that's fine too, but it's a different approach.
Looks like Fran may be in favor of the latter. We'll find out if ultimately that is the better approach. It definitely worked with McCord and made perfect sense in that case. I'm at a point where I am onboard, but it's going to put significant stress on both high school recruiting and NIL relationships.
Personally, my preference is to "grow your own" but I think that is probably antiquated thinking these days.
Grow your own would be great but every kid is a free agent, bring in the best guys who fit your culture, let the best man win and try to maintain depth as much as you can. Roster retention is a challenge these days, that is a problem everywhere. With roster expansion the portal is just going to get more crowdedI'm not sure you were trying to be condescending, but that's how it came off.

Very interesting prospect reading up on him. Profiles as a pocket passer with extreme athletic ability.
I think the concern with grow your own is even that's far from a lock. What happens if one of our young guys ball out and big SEC $ comes calling that we can't match?I'm not sure you were trying to be condescending, but that's how it came off.

Your last paragraph is the key: does Georgia worry about “scaring off” QBs? Hell no. Fran doesn’t either.I think the concern with grow your own is even that's far from a lock. What happens if one of our young guys ball out and big SEC $ comes calling that we can't match?
It's a difficult situation to manage, no perfect solution but as Don Draper says, "that's what the money's for."
Competition brings out the best in everyone. Even the blue chip schools bring in 5-stars every year. Kids at that level aren't concerned with who's in front.
