Class of 2026 QB Semaj Beals (PA) Verbal to Akron

I've read through these pages but still not sure how valued this kid is to us. Pardon my ignorance on the recruiting trail, but would this kid really be a big get for us considering what we have in the QB room? It doesn't seem like he would get a chance to start anytime soon (and I doubt with the big boy programs either) so why so many offers?
-He has his Sr year and a redshirt year before he would be involved in a QB battle. At that time 1/2 the QBs on our roster will be gone for one reason or another.

-You can never have too many QBs.

-His film looks good. (Good touch, deep balls, and stands in the pocket)

-All the other programs offered too for the reasons above.

Appreciate the response.

It just seems a little off to me that he's only a 3* and Bama, Ohio State, etc. are after him. I'm not so sure they still are since he's taken no OVs. Something here just smells off.

My guess is tomorrow I think we'll see that he wasn't as valued as what is offer list shows.

He has visited several schools and looks like he camped at Bama, PSU and other schools who followed up with offers. South. Carolina offered in March so he is getting looks.

Yeah, I just don't think this kid is really as coveted as his offer sheet shows. A kid can go visit anywhere, but where are his OVs? He has ZERO OVs with the OSU's, Bama's, etc.

Maybe the kid is good. But probably, he's mid tier based on the obvious here.

No doubt everything is weird about this recruitment.

You could be right but didn't we just take a 5 star without an OV? I think Tomcat's take is more accurate than we realize.

He plays at one of the Catholic schools in Philadelphia. I would be surprised if it is academics. It seems like he is trying to get more offers or is really undecided. Maybe he should pump the breaks let his season happen and see if more offers come in. Don’t want to commit and than decommit.

I don't believe that offer list is accurate. Kids get recruited by schools all the time [as we all know], but not all recruiting interest is a committable offer.

Here's my take. This kid has arm talent, but he's short. So some of the big boys expressed interest but have backed off. The question is, will a kid like Beals be a good gamble despite his height? Because the tools are there.

If that is the true list of finalists for him, it would shock me to find out he isn’t ours if we wanted him.
I expect Rutgers

Doesn't mean he ends up there, but I can see him getting the promise to be the QB and taking that risk.

The other QB they have has a less than impressive offer list.

Dark horse is Sac State

Bryce Young worked out ok. Not saying he is in that class of course but height isn’t everything.

Welp his finalist list is different.

"Top quarterback Semaj Beals (@Maj_QB1) announces his college commitment today. Other than the Orange, he is deciding between: Buffalo, Akron, Tulsa, Sacramento State, and Rutgers. He recently took a visit to Syracuse on June 16th. #OrangeNation"

This list of finalists makes a lot more sense to me than his listed offers.

Watching his tape a few days ago, I said to myself "this kid would look great on Tuesday/ Wednesday night MACtion (and that's not a bad thing, that league has some great QB play).

A lot to like about his film, but his arm strength and frame says G5 to me, not P4.

However, that can always be improved (he is probably only 16 after all) and if the coaches like him, I like him.

Exactly. That was my earlier point. I didn't think Ohio St and Bama were still interested.

I would expect they are looking at him as a possible for 2 years down the road. We generally don't use Freshman or Sophmores till they learn the system.

I never could understand non-committable offers. A non-committable offer is really no offer, it could be, but it also may not be. Kinda the same with kids verbally accepting an offer but continuing to talk with other programs to see if there is something better out there for them.
