Someone needs to start against Tennessee. But I could see a scenario where Fran plays them both since it seems so tight. I’m not thinking alternating possessions but playing match ups.

We need one to gain significant separation soon.

Anything is possible. But I think it's much more likely that Fran will name QB1 and stick with that guy for at least the Tennessee game.

I don't see any way we play both QB's that significantly throughout the season. I guess its possible for the first game if you think it is really close and you want someone to win it on the field. But even then I bet Fran picks one and rolls with it. I think you need a dedicated starter and leader of the team. Plus you want your QB to grow throughout the season. Playing them half the time slows that development. It's possible to bring in another QB for an occasional packages if they are better runner however.

I think what might happen is Angeli starts, but Collins is our Hail Mary guy.

Who is in the lead right now? Haven’t followed anything this summer.

Both Fran and Nixon aren't the "share the leadership" role at QB or trick the other team type of guys. It's actually one thing that he's been 100% clear on since day 1.

I was at the Pitt game. Any other coach sees his QB1 have that sort of nightmare of a 1st half (3 pick 6's) would've pulled him and just said take a breathe and we'll get them next week. Nope Fran was in his face telling him to shake it off and get out there to lead the team.

That's what he expects from his QB. No quit and to be the head of the snake. He will ride with that QB until the team or the coaches lose faith in them to lead.

QB1 will be the better field general whether that is the guy with the better arm or legs.

While I agree with you on what they want for a starter and leader, if either starter has 3 interceptions, (much less pick sixes) in the first half vs Tennessee, they will be the back up from that point on.

Neither has the body of work McCord had prior to Pitt.

another reason to have a clear qb1 - it discourages internal dissension where half the team will favor one QB or the other especially when there is adversity.

Seems like a tough decision, but for good reasons. Also, Rickie Collins injury in the spring doesn’t appear to be an issue anymore which is a new factor as they compete through camp. Seems like a very strong QB room and they are high on both. Just hope whoever doesn’t get the job for game 1 and beyond doesn’t get too discouraged and remains ready.
