QB1: Angeli

Just to put numbers to your comment, this is from Google AI:

Kyle McCord, a quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles as of the 2025 NFL season, has a high spin rate.
Here's a look at his spin rate compared to the NFL average:

Average Spin Rate 699 RPM
NFL Average: 592 RPM
Max Spin Rate
740 RPM
Elite NFL: 800 RPM

This indicates McCord's ability to throw a tight, efficient spiral. His spiral efficiency was also measured at 93% during a Shrine Bowl session, which would be considered in the 95+ percentile among NFL quarterbacks.
Why not just post the Syracuse.com article than the AI slop summary? Was literally the first result when you search "McCord Spin Rate".

You say Rickie seems like the better passer but I want to know what that all entails and who has stated that. I think its been implied Ricky has the stronger arm but i'm not sure Its been implied that Rickie is the better passer. A lot more goes into that which we don't know. Such as accuracy, consistency, making all the throws like the routine ones, having good anticipation etc. Rickie is more physically gifted. But obviously, as we all know, that doesn't make him the better QB. We'll see.

With the comments from Fran and Nunzio about the importance of leadership and managing the offense and the huddle, i have a feeling Angeli wins out. In watching his interviews, he seems super smart, composed and appears to be a great leader. Says all the right things and really just seems to have that personality and confidence of a good QB. Not that Rickie is not a good leader, it just seems like Angeli seems more exceptional in that regard to me and I'd guess he has a slight leg up.

But really he has not been identified as pulling ahead of Rickie yet, so a lot rides on the next week and largely on the scrimmage. I mean who knows what can happen in a small sample sized scrimmage. Hopefully someone just kills it in the scrimmage and makes the decision easier for all involved.
Well
According to axe and other sources Collin’s has looked like the better passer trust in on summer break from college I’ve been doing is looking at cuse right now lol.

I’m not sure I’d put all that much stock in Axe’s assessment. Reporters are getting about 20 minutes before practice to make assessments.
We will all find out in a little over two weeks.

Did you not know this? His coach, Jordan Palmer was on the Rich Eisen show talking all good things about Kyle back in April, spin rate included?

Kyle McCord's spin rate, during the Shrine Bowl, averaged 699 RPM, significantly higher than the NFL average of 592 RPM. His spiral efficiency was also impressive, reaching 93%, compared to the NFL average of 81%. These metrics suggest McCord has a strong arm and throws a tight spiral, which is highly valued by NFL scouts according to The New York Times.

I was aware. I was commenting on the use of AI rather than sourcing readily available information.

"After the second scrimmage."

Fran Brown on when he's going to pick a starting QB for Syracuse football. He also says that it's Rickie Collins' job to lose.

I know the interview is old but still having interesting

Are you referring to Axes podcast from a day or two ago? Because I listened to that and didn’t hear him say Rickie looked like the better passer. I heard him say he has a bigger arm and is more physically gifted.

And what other sources said that?

Well Angeli does have the dome experience in his favor as well, having taken 4 snaps at QB for Notre Dame against Syracuse in 2022 haha

If SU is to win more than 6 games against this year's schedule, the run game will have to be better than last year and the defense will have to be better than last year.

No Matter who wins QB1, if QB1 goes down, by all accounts SU's season will not be flushed down the toilet, because QB2 will be practically as good. In Dungey's only healthy season [10 wins], DeVito got to play significant snaps and did win the UNC game.

If QB2 doesn't get significant snaps this year, he will not be here in '26.

I don't agree with much of that.

Angeli strongly considered transferring her last year, due to the Nunzio connection, but we opted to go for McCord [which was the right decision, obviously].

This year, it isn't a surprise that Angeli both was pursued by us and opted to come here -- especially after the video game numbers McCord put up.

I don't think he was brought in just to "push" Collins. And I don't think they brought him in as insurance.

From what I gather, Angeli has all of the tools, and is capable of producing in a big way in our system.

If Collins beats him out -- then that's great, because it means that he can, too. But I expect Angeli to pull away in this competition.
Exactly, or, as I have been saying it, I expect angeli to start, and if he doesn’t it means we likely have the next Donovan McNabb

All I see is one guy that has had more media training than the other guy.

In terms of being a leader or being smarter, I don't think their interviews have given us much indication of that.
I liked it when Collins, in one of his interviews, when speaking effusively about a teammate, asked the media (paraphrasing) if they would like him to supply anymore adjectives.

My two cents. Collins is a uniquely gifted player. He can make all the throws, he is bigger, stronger, faster than Angeli but his gun slinger side is an issue as he seems to turn the ball over more.
Angeli is very accurate and doesn't force. His arm is good but not elite. He can move the chains with his legs but not as well as Collins.
He is more of a game manager, Collins is more like Dungey.
Very tough choice for the staff. Two excellent players and both good kids. I'd say Angeli is more outgoing than Collins.
We can win with either player. We have two very talented kids and the guys behind them are also good especially the kid from Texas and the LaCrosse player. Belin is small but he moves the team. Kids a baller.

Maybe, maybe not. Doesn’t the proposed settlement limit transfers again? I might be mistaken.

How does it appear Angeli is super smart and appears to be more exceptional when it comes to composure and being a great leader? Genuinely curious what this is based on.

Both guys seem pretty even through interviews and practice clips this spring.
It must be exhausting and miserable to constantly be going through life looking for things to get offended and outraged by. Not everything is racist, it’s objectively true that Steve Angeli is more well spoken and a better communicator at least to the media. Notre Dame tends to admit and produce incredibly well rounded students, and their football student athletes are no different. Stop playing the victim card

Fixed that for you.

I literally said in another post one guy has more media training than the other.

Nothing about my post that you quoted to get offended about, but for some reason you got offended?

You don’t think LSU has good media training? Both are getting the same at SU, a renowned communications school, and Ricky has been here longer.

I couldn't find game highlights on Rickie Collins. This is the 2024 spring game:

And he did not play in our spring game this year.
