QB1: Angeli

I been seeing online all these Tennessee fans and other cfb fans are doubting Steve I hope he takes this as motivation and just plays the right way vs Tennessee don’t force anything keep it save and be a great game manager and be the hero when needed . Need Steve to show everyone why he was a 4 star recruit.

I am happy Steve won the job I think he will be safe and be smart vs Tennessee and not put the ball in harms way . I think we will see Rickie in the option game as well. I think we will be Tennessee using the run and short pass play action game as well.
I think we will see lots of swing passes to RBs, and Nixon will play a lot. Ohio State exploited that over and over, and I bet we try it too.

We need the OL to push and move their DL and just lean on them I would drain the clock vs Tennessee don’t give their offense the ball back . We will need plenty of long drives to beat this team . I think we beat them by 14.

Agree. I also remember people criticizing McCord before the season. Let’s hope we have a similar result with Angeli.

O79: Per Chris Carlson in his article on Syracuse.com this morning on the report that Steve Angeli will be QB1:

"Angeli had initially impressed the Syracuse coaching staff with his poise and performance as a backup quarterback during Notre Dame’s College Football Playoff semifinal win.

"Angeli came on for an injured Riley Leonard and led a sputtering Notre Dame offense to a field goal before halftime."

Me: It had to have had "some" consideration.
Correct. He has several real games under his belt. You don't ignore that. Obviously you had to see it yourself in practice, too. But we're essentially playing an SEC road game to start the year. We know Steve won't be phased by the environment. That helps.

I just hope he doesn't have a quick hook. Want him to at least get a couple of games starting to see how it goes. What I don't want for the team is you struggling versus Tennessee, and we are making a switch. If this is the guy who won the job, then give him multiple games to see how it goes. This is my hope for the team internally. I know the fans and this message board will be calling for a QB change with his first mistake or even first incompletion. Probably by the end of the 4th game (Clemson on the road) we will know what we have.

Hah the same fans that wanted to get him back a few months ago. Let's not forget their botched QB1 journey the last year,

This was my prediction all along. So much so that I pulled the trigger buying his journey from the NIL store 2 weeks ago when it was on clearance and sale for 40$ and will be rocking it for games whether he's throwing picks or not.

There are relationship and history going back with the Campanile family and with everything being so close that goes along way. He just must have that extra little bit of what they were looking for from a leader.

Reality is both these guys are going to get plenty of playing time and this is very much a trial by fire year to set this team up for a CFP run next year.

*I'm not discounting the team this year. I think they will surprise all these "experts" again starting with Tenn. It's just too much wear and tear on the road for a young team, even a Blue Blood team is not surviving the road schedule we have.

You can't mess around and lose the Uconn game. Big dog's vs Tenn and no one will care outside of SU ville if we lose. But the next 2 are must games so that by Duke we have a functioning offense.

I hope this is Carlson editorializing and not how the staff made this decision.

Looking forward to August 30th though. Very intrigued to see Angeli in action.

Angeli wins QB1!

I don't get the sense that Nixon rolls this way.

Angeli's his guy now.

The intelligence takes are getting tiresome. If you don’t know the player personally there is no reason to comment on their perceived intelligence. How someone talks to the media has as much to do with their personality as it does with how smart they are. They both bring different things to the table, may the best man win. Whoever starts will hopefully play well and win us games.
it's rooted in racial bias as well...

I doubt you see a quick hook. If you saw Pitt last year, it’s probably not going to happen. You learn from mistakes and Kyle got better after the Pitt game.

If it really was a close call, I wonder how much of the decision went into prior experience. We play Tennessee Week1. No time to break a new guy in. If UConn were Week1 and Tennessee Week3, does Fran make the same decision?

Or was Angeli hands down the guy?
Fran doesn't operate this way. Once Angeli was signed he was the guy. He didn't come here to sit.

Operate in what way? Doing what gives us the best chance to win? He has no interest in that?

If the competition was close one guy could offer the higher upside while the other could offer more immediate results.

From the reports we were hearing Collins was going to win the job. I hope it was hands down Angeli as QB1. But that isn't what we were being told.

I believe that it was, but they wanted to give Collins another chance to show his skills/improvements in the second scrimmage.

They've got to keep encouraging Collins, as he may be used in some games for some alternative plays.
Hopefully, games 2 & 3 start out really well so that he gets some PT in Q4.
