FWIW no "irony" involved - IF the portal existed when Dion was a player, 144% he gone.

It was only due to having to sit out a year if he left, and also Hop playing "Good Cop" that they were able to hang onto him,
AND get him to buy in to the whole super 6th man role that he thrived in.

Also don't think he was quite the same level of cancer/malcontent that Q was.

AND - it's one thing to have ONE headcase on your team.
But when there are 2 or 3 (Benny & Judah) it becomes a massive problem in the locker room and on the court.

He cleaned house of the guys who routinely didn't listen to him.

And the result was the amazing Wes & Andy "Shut it Down" team of 2010.
Dion was interviewed a few years ago and said Boeheim actually told him to leave and transfer after his freshman year and he didn’t want to. He actually took it as a challenge to prove Boeheim he belonged. But there were definitely a TON of players who would have transferred over the years if they didn’t have to sit out.

"Players only love you when they're playing".

Seeing that pic reminded me of Petar. He's doing great in his own right. Starts at Long Beach St. Plays 31mpg. Averaging 15ppg, 6rpg, 2apg, 2spg. Shooting 55% including 38% from 3 and 75% on FTs. Good for him.
Wow. He’s doing well. FYI, though, that’s Peter Carey in the photo with that 2024 Cuse squad, who went Siena for a year and then subsequently disappeared and apparently took a year off. Of course you’re talking about Petar Majstorovic from last season. Long Beach State stinks but he’s their second leading scorer. He could have had a role on this team backing up Kyle at center.

IIRC, Dion’s mom told him to suck it up buttercup and deal with adversity.

lol. yea, a case of mistaken identity.

Also brought back up Justin Taylor, wow has he really done nothing at JMU
Justin Taylor has really struggled since leaving Syracuse. He is only averaging 0.5 points per game in just 6 minutes/game this season (in 12 games). He missed the first 3 weeks of January games. Looks like he basically just plays garbage time.

Last season, Justin played 10 minutes/games and only averaged 1.8 points after moving to the bench just 5 games into the season. He did experience some major issues with his wrist.

Too bad to see him very quietly finish out his college basketball career. Hopefully things work out for him after college.

"Rightly or wrongly, I have no sympathy for Red, and I see this as Karma. The way he ran Q out of the program and muddied him up so he didn’t get picked up by a high major, was wrong, and no decent person would do that. No matter what the problem was with Q, things could have been worked out. But Red simply didn’t like his game and didn’t like him. He did the same thing to Judah Mintz. He sabotaged his draft by muddying his name, which probably cost him a bunch of money. How could Red do this to a guy who was huge in helping him get 20 wins his first year coaching? So for him to be having a rough time right now, again, I have no sympathy. I don’t wish him to fail and get fired, but if he does I have one word—karma."

"To date in the 2025-26 season, Copeland is playing like an All-ACC performer. He leads the Wolfpack in points, assists and steals per game. Copeland is averaging 27.7 minutes, 14.1 points, 6.2 assists, 3.4 rebounds, 2.7 turnovers and 1.7 steals per contest while making 53.8 percent from the field, 47.6 percent from beyond the arc and 75.2 percent from the free-throw line."
I always liked him. He was a creative player who was fun to watch. I was disappointed to learn that he was apparently a difficult kid for the coaches.

Finger pointing and whining. Judah and his team were a chore to root for.

Red is a chore to root for too - I see no reason not to believe the Q/Judah stories based on what we’ve seen the last 2 years

Copeland just had an amazing game in a 1 point win at SMU.

7pts, 10rebs, 16 assists and 0 turnovers
He was great but he did miss 2 free throws with about 10 seconds left to open the door for SMU to hit a game winner.

The other thing is he was massively more talented than Q, for example, and even Judah. He was here two years and the team won 27 and 34 games, respectively.

He had a PER over 26 his sophomore year and a TS% over 56%.

The dude was a straight up beast and bringing him off the bench was crazy advantageous for us, but he did it. Then a lottery draft pick and hung around in the NBA. And when he was interviewed at the draft he gave credit to JB/his time at Cuse for maturing him.

He's always been a terrific player. He's an idiot...then and now. Love how people can look past a kid acting like a moron as long as he helps you win. I'm guilty of it myself.

I definitely look past it. How many times does the choir boy team finish on top of the podium? Never. It's sport, kid talks trash, that ain't for boomers I know but there's worse things.
