Quadir Copeland/NC St

Red is a former PG with another former SU PG on staff and not a single guard under him since taking the head job has made notable improvements in their game. Wade had Q, who needed to grow up a lot, and has helped him grow as a player. Still a mouthy knucklehead but we’ve have plenty of those that it didn’t ruin their career as they got better on the court.

Red has never shown he has command of the program and it’s shown in his teams on the court again and again. He’s an assistant coach/recruiter at this level and that is his ceiling at this level. Maybe a big step down he can be a HC again someday but not this level

He's always been a terrific player. He's an idiot...then and now. Love how people can look past a kid acting like a moron as long as he helps you win. I'm guilty of it myself.
I’m not sure he is an idiot. He seems to have a high BB IQ based on this. Is he outgoing, dramatic maybe but so was Magic (not comparing them). Seems like his teammates like him and trust him to get the the ball. Bad

I would say that 85 to 90 percent on this board were thrilled to see him go. Those of us who felt otherwise were in the vast minority.
He isn’t the same player. He always had talent and potential. When it was reported he stopped going to class, sadly he made his own decision. It has paid off in his last year for him thankfully.

Kind of how the world works though. High productivity types generally always do have more, let's just say wiggle room, than those less productive. I'm familiar with top reps typically getting away with consistently poor/sloppy contractual work, because first and foremost, they are high producers. Right, wrong or indifferent.

Do we really think most of these kids go to class anymore?

This is true, he had a lot of growing up to do. I always enjoyed watching him. He was my favorite player the last year.

Magic was always smiling and a gentleman and he went to class when in college. My wife dealt with him professionally as the mai tre d at the private LA club where all the Lakers hung out. He was not a show-off, never expected special treatment. No comparison to Q.
She has stories to tell; Shaq dancing with his (short) future wife by putting her on a table so they could be the same height...

I don't believe Magic ever gave Heathcote a death stare while running down the court.

And the biggest non surprise of the week was announced earlier today…..that was Q getting ACC player of the week.

That was one insane game by Mikel Brown - the stat line is bananas. I turned the game on after Xavier/St John's and saw him hit his last three. Not sure why he was still playing up 110-70, or whatever the score was, but dang.....phenomenal performance.

How people forget so easily. Lot of people on this board said Q couldn’t be a pg and he lacked talent. Makes me laugh really. So many people have no idea what they are talking about.

Westry gave no one any basis at all to form an opinion other than he was done. Most on here I remember were anticipating that he was going to be a big help going into last season.
And it took Q his 4th year to really blossom. Last year at McNeese he played less minutes per game than he did here as a sophomore. His senior year it’s his first year shooting over .250 from three which he did as a sophomore here. He’s now shooting .447 from 3 and is using great judgement on when he takes them - averaging a little less than 2 attempts/game. His assist to TO ratio really skyrocketed this year too. Good for him but he’s a different player this year.

I think thats the point. People thought westry was going to come in and light the world on fire, constantly claiming he was the "missing piece" of an objectively bad team.

Thats what happens when you have a coach and staff who can develop players, they get better
