Quante Gillians transferring to Temple

Bottom line is Fran haters will see guys leaving and it just feeds their narrative of the ship sinking. The reality is, Wildhack doesn’t want to go beyond 85 guys. Well, do the math. How the hell are we going to upgrade the roster if a bunch of kids don’t go? So far, we have had very few losses of note. We have an entirely new defensive staff, that alone will send guys packing, and didn’t everyone want the defensive staff overhauled? So, let’s see what the portal brings. Our D will be much better with Vince and if we have a healthy and functional QB, the offense will be much better too
It’s kind of fascinating actually. The season fell off a cliff, Fran took a ton of criticism (warranted), and he was given a directive by the fanbase. And he’s acted on that so far as he can so far. He brought in arguably the best if not one of the best available DC’s and a guy that looks like a perfect fit for a program like this, while in the process putting the program above his own interests and firing a personal, long term friend.. It almost seems like some of these guys are just actively rooting against the program out of spite for Fran at this point.

I can’t speak to why IB does or doesn’t like Coach Fran, but “winners wash” and having the kids run after UConn is both “shtick” and infinitely dumb.
"Winners wash" was an offhanded comment that went viral and Fran ran with it. The UConn running thing was explained ad nauseam here. He told the players that would happen win our lose, and it did.

Will Schiano ever win 10 games in a season?

I hope he gets the opportunity to play and I’ll imagine if he proves himself he will be back to a P4 next time this year.

At this point, I think it’s fair to say that we don’t know what the heck is going on with the program right now. You can’t call Fran a top recruiter who is going to turn the program around with his prowess if almost all his top recruits exit the program without making much of an impact. Regarding portal talent, that’s a wait and see because we’ve had as many duds as we’ve had contributors. As far as coaching acumen, that’s another wait and see. Nobody can say with much certainty that the program is improved year over year with all the comings and goings. I’ve seen more high potential players flame out that I care to remember. This player is another disappointment in my mind. It’s really unfortunate. We need to start stacking talented classes as well as highly regarded transfers if we’re ever going to improve. That means hitting on players like this and keeping them. We’ll just have to wait and see.

I really hope we can get to a place where disagreement doesn’t have to lead to insults. When conversations turn hostile, it becomes difficult for anyone to engage openly or learn from one another. It’s okay to have strong opinions, but it’s even more valuable to challenge ideas with reasoning instead of personal attacks. Comments like yours don’t actually address the point being made, and they close the door to meaningful dialogue. We can all benefit more when we focus on understanding and discussing ideas rather than putting people down.

"...we’ve had as many duds as we’ve had contributors" Is this true for the portal? Honestly curious if you had done digging with the numbers. It is hard to always gauge, because as much as we all want stars out of the portal, if depth transfers out, you are sometimes also bringing in depth from the portal, making it more difficult to judge if a player is a dud, or just the depth piece they were brought in to be.

I think you make some solid points in your post, but this is an interesting thread to make it in. We cannot hit on every player, and even though this was looked at as big time recruit, is Fran to blame that he may not be? Should we have bailed and let Michigan take him?

I think we all can call the recruiting class of 2024 a giant failure.
Fran didn't have much time to get kids so I think we took a risk on more then usual.
To say he hasn't proven his recruiting chops is just say wrong.
Best recruit since Wayne Morgan.
Highest rated class since they have been tracking it.
KYLE MCCORD.

Sure we've had some dudes transfer out but guess what so do the Georgia's, Bamas, etc of the world.
