Question about sports bars in Syracuse

It always flies under the radar for road games, but how about Varsity?

Food and beer are cheap and good, kids love it, the atmosphere is great. And it's never too crowded, especially during Christmas.

Have a large group getting together to watch Texas Bowl in Syracuse including kids. Right now Im thinking Tully's which i know about or the new Revolutions which I have not seen yet. I would take any info or suggestions about any other potential sports bars. ( Have been to Wing Wagon also )

Dave and Busters for football is crap unless you want to stand all game. I had tickets to the Comedy Club next door and we decided to go early, grab something to eat and picked DB's so I could watch the Lions/Cardinals game. We weren't seated at the bar, but in the general bar area and I couldn't see the TVs for crap. At one point I got up from the table to go stand at the bar. The tables are really far away from the TVs and the angles suck. They only have TVs at the bar, not on the surrounding walls. Tully's has more of a look anywhere and see the game type of vibe. Now maybe DB's would be different with all TVs showing the same game however I won't ever go back there for Sunday Ticket.

Obviously Tully's has games, but my kids have been disappointed by the large amount of adults in the gaming area during a game on a Sunday afternoon. They tried to play the games but ended up spending most of the time at our table getting bored so keep that in mind as well.

My honest opinion is that a bowl party is your best bet unless you've got 30 or more people. The kids will all keep themselves occupied, it's definitely cheaper, you'll be able to hear the game, and I love cooking game day type food so that's how I roll. Already planning this year's menu.

World of Beer is also opening in Destiny this weekend. Not sure what game watching would be like in there.

Hey man! Thanks for the heads-up! Now that is one place I will be checking out for sure. Thanks again!

take them to the Alpine, you won't have to watch the kids, especially the boys:)

I would hate to suggest a bar in the Mall but Toby Keith's I love this bar and grill is a BIG spot. Good food, lots of TV'S and girls in short shorts. As far as paradise Found that place SUCKS!!!!! I'll never walk back into that place. Girls are not hot at all.

Can I guess where you live! :)

I was going to say sharkey's too. They have a back room separate from the bar area with TVs, ping pong tables, etc.

Maybe if the OP called ahead he may get that room reserved?

I have never tried the food at revolution but I can say that there are a ton of tvs and a play area similar to d&b. They have a sports room area with giant TVs and tables in a theater type setting.

They also have bowling underneath giant screens. I cannot speak to prices and kids area is smaller than D&B but I am assuming that it is a better game watching situation.

If you're a fan better enjoy it while it lasts, because it won't be for much longer.

moutain in cuse i have been to many places due to 30+ years of drinking and friends are in local bands

I agree with Pyle. I prefer to do game-watching parties at my house. It seems so much better than going to a bar with a large group that includes kids. You control the TV (and the volume); you insure you have decent; reasonably priced food; the booze is much cheaper; the kids can do their own thing; you're guaranteed clean, working bathrooms without long lines; and you can ask everyone to bring some kind of food and something to drink.

I understand sports bars when you're out of town, but I've never understood going to them with a large group when you're at home. It is so much more comfortable (and less expensive) to do it at home.

I generally agree, but I prefer to invite myself to someone else's house and then give them that same pitch of why it's such a great idea. I'm willing to bring whatever. But when I'm ready to go, I go home to my clean house and go to bed.

Like to watch when bar is packed with fans. watched SU beat Marquette in elite 8 at Trappers in minoa and it was packed with Orange fans and it was a blast, plus i have it on DVR back home so I watch it again at home and see anything I might have missed in the bustle of the crowd. ( I watch most games over whether Im there or not )

I can only watch games that I really care about with certain people. Bars are out. Can't hear the TV, and there is sure to be too many fans with shaky knowledge making dumb comments. I can't deal with that.

Same thing with watching at home. The only people I want around are those who are equally as invested in the game and who are knowledgeable about the team.

I would have to watch every game alone.
