Question on elbow throw

If the NCAA is trying to crack down on elbow throws, then shouldn't a guy who throws an elbow get whistled regardless of whether he hits his own teammate or an opponent?

by rule it should have been called.. but they couldn't figure out how to call fouls on shot clock violations so rules just dont matter to that crew.

I wondered the exact same thing as they showed it and found it to be the UNCA player. Because it wouldn't have mattered if it was unintentional or not by SU, it was just if Rak landed it. They didn't even call a foul on Rak. So if it was unintentional but happened to be by UNCA, seems like they should of called it.

Would have been weird though. Calling a foul on their own team. Just starts to make me think it's a bad rule.

You're just starting to think its a bad rule? I've been convinced its a well intentioned disaster almost from the moment it became a rule. Like most rules that get put in place for "player safety", nobody really thought out the game play implications of the rule.

Once your opponent has control of the ball, you are free to try to take it. Your opponent is also free to plant his elbow in your nostril. (Worked fine from 1891-2010). Players during that time frame learned not to mess with a guy that had the ball in his possession.

The elbow rule is absurd mainly because one of the first things you are taught as a basketball player, when it comes to rebounding, is to secure the ball, elbows out, and own your pivot space. That is YOUR area, and screw anyone who tries to invade it.
