Question On TE Usage

our TE position issues are multi faceted.

1) we needed them to help block with the oline too much. Thats not a usage or scheme issue
2) they needed to catch what was thrown to them, that was not a scheme or usage issue
3) they needed to be option 1-2 not 3-4 and thats a scheme thing because we didnt get a bunch of well blocked plays to check down to TEs. there are not a ton of plays where TEs are #1 option for many teams.
4) they needed to do a better job of finding the holes in space
5) our QBs needed to make better throws the times they were open.

Hoping they both do, it would make the offense so much better. Opens up the middle of the field, force the LB's off the line of scrimmage.
Also keep the safeties back in their areas, rather then cheating closer to the line.
agree

Agree, I want the TE be used more in the passing game but to say the position is the difference in wins is over selling it. It helps the offense because it provides other options but defenses can take away that as well and force you other guys to make plays. We can have a TE catch 50 passes next year and still go 5-7.
Very true if you don’t have a balanced attack as you become too one dimensional. I don’t believe we have to be concerned here as Anne ran a vary balanced attack at UVA! A good TE attack added to our run game and WR development will truly stress the opponents defense. By next year, we should be able to see that in full play!

The last TE I can remember making a touchdown catch was the dude that got all those penalties, even got one on a kick off while not on the field lol. I forget his name for some reason but I remember him making a few good catches.

Could probably use those 3-4 catches a game from TE but after seeing Benson drop a few I can why we didn’t try more

That was an issue with Benson. He didn’t develop into a downfield threat. They wanted to use him vertically more. Maybe he develops that at GT.

People assume we ignored the TEs on purpose...maybe we just didn't have any TEs who could get open and make plays?

Ravian Pierce.

What’s the CFB offense we should model ourselves after in regard to TE usage?

I like UVA’s use of the TE in recent years, PITT did ok last year.

I’m not sure it will be the panacea folks have built it up to be, honestly
UGA runs 3 TE sets. Of course they have insane talent at that position. Brock Bowers is arguably the best TE in the country and then they have Darnell Washington who is 6-7 and 265lbs.

Yes,
The rich get richer; runaway booster money allows the SEC to dominate college football at this time!
