We started out 0 - 17. What was the worst start we ever had before scoring a point ?

Second question - by my reckoning it was approximately 13 1/2 minutes before we got a point from a starter. Was that a record ?

Not the historian but a I remember a crazy game at Pitt like 15 years ago where we got behind 19-0 and then scored the next 18. I think it was one of the Scoop teams...There was also a home game against Providence around the late 90s or early 2000s where we fell behind 18-0

If this was a home game, would the crowd be standing 20 minutes? Do we still do the standing?

If we're asking questions for SWC75, I have one: Autry has suffered an inordinate amount of blowout losses in his first 1.5 seasons as HC. How long did it take JB to sustain the same amount of blowouts (call it losing by 15 points or more)?

His first 3 years he had a total of 2.
1 his first year and 1 his 2nd year and zero his 3rd season. I didn’t look any farther than those 3 seasons.

I am not Steve, but I have a subscription to Stathead.

Losses of 10 points or more:
  • From 1976-2023 (JAB), Syracuse suffered 168 losses by 10 points or more, 76 by 15 points or more.
  • From 2024-2025 (Red), Syracuse has lost 14 games by 10 points or more and 12 games by 15 points or more.
Duration
  • It took JAB 6 years, 1 month, 27 days to lose 14 games by 10 points or more.
  • It took JAB 15 years, 3 months, 11 days to lose 12 games by 15 points or more.
Which is pretty stunning, but maybe not that telling since it was 50 years ago (different times and rules). So, going the opposite way, during the back-end of JAB's career, he lost 12 games by 15 points or more over the last 2 years, 1 month, 3 days of his coaching career.

In fairness, JB was not losing a lot of games those first few years at all, close or otherwise. And JB inherited a team that was 110-35 the prior 5 years.

Also, let's go backwards before Red to see the program trajectory.

In 2022-2023, there were 6 blowout losses (plus a 12-point loss to Colgate).
In 2021-2022, there were 4 blowout losses--including one to Colgate (15 pts).
4 in 2020-2021, 3 in 2019-2020. 5 in 2018-2019. 4 in 2017-2018, when we made it to the Elite Eight.
Seems like we get 3-6 per year recently.

Not sure it is a meaningful stat. Not that Red is not in trouble...

I find it darkly amusing that when we're doing well, we look for records about how well.

When we're on the bubble, we look for stats that show we're underrated.

This year, we're looking for records that show how bad we are.

The records are looking for us...

And unfortunately keeping Red means it's going to get worse, before it gets better.

If I have the numbers right this is the worst record through 15 games since 68-69. Thus the worst start in 54 years.
