  • Forget the INT's. Dungey had a rough time throwing the ball even for some of his completions. But, what a competitor. No one could ever question his effort and courage. I do wonder if he learned the drop kick from Edinger with his many years of martial arts experience
  • Looks like we have ourselves a running game. 3rd game in a row. No longer can be considered a fluke. Tons of credit to Strickland and the OL, well at least for their run blocking. Strickland and Neal seem to be running harder and the OL appears more physical.
  • I wonder how much the field affected the poor snaps
  • Thought Ish had a tough time, but great to see him battling. Thought some poor throws by Dungey limited Erv.
  • Think Murphy was our MVP-If he carries that confidence forward, I think he wins us a game later in the year
  • Someone has to have a talk with Pierce. I don't remember anyone ever having this many 15-yard penalties and he gave the ref zero choice.
  • Though the refs were as balanced as any of our games this year. I wonder if the Clemson victory got us some respect from them.
  • Stating the obvious, but great to see The D standing strong, particularly in the 1st half with all the turnovers. Slayton with a HUGE stop. I'd argue he is our most irreplaceable player on D.
  • Would've liked the bye one week earlier, but very excited to go into the last 4 game stretch fresh off a bye, while FSU ostensibly has to play a very physical game against BC. Getting Coleman and at least 1 of Scoop or Cordy would be huge, though who knows how well Cordy would play in game 1 with such a long layoff.

I have to believe that the field conditions - along with the Miami DL pressure - account for Dungey's inaccuracy in the first half.

Really, the only part of Miami's game that truly impressed me was the physicality of its DL.

I don't love the 15 yard penalties, but I love Ravian Pierce.

Not sure why we are making excuses for Dungey's first half performance like the field being wet. He panicked and stopped reading the D and started throwing the ball to spots where he expected someone to be without really looking. As Huard said, the game was going too fast for him. He is tough as nails and a great qb when he is good, but he has a history of games where he is terrible for a quarter or a half. We don't need to look any further than the first half against MTSU... or the first quarter against NC St this year or the entire 2nd and 3rd quarters against Louisville last year.

He’s taught to pass the ball to where players should be - combination of field conditions, good secondary, and bad throws were the issues.

“Excuses” are reasons - and he’s good enough to overcome them and didn’t.

Yeah, but he also has to read defenses. There were a number of times he threw where there were multiple defenders when we had someone open elsewhere. He has a tendency to stare where he has predetermined he wants to go with the ball instead of reading the D or manipulating the D with his eyes. It's a weakness in his game. With everything else he brings, I'll take it.

A couple of those picks he was just throwing the ball up there. For the past two seasons our guy usually goes up and gets it. Not happening against Miami's DBs. I didn't think it had much to do with the conditions as much as him just looking for the big play, because there were other guys open and he never looked around.

As one of our posters incorrectly points out though we did try to attack the middle of the field but we had a couple of drops and batted down passes. The rush was an issue, our guys just could not get open and a couple slipped and fell coming out of breaks.

I'd say Dungey redeemed himself though, he dug us the hole but without him we never get back in it either.

By the way, here was Miami defensive back depth chart for the game:

LCB –
1) Dee Delany SR (Citadel Transfer and FCS All American)
2) Trajan Bandy FR (4 star)
3) Jhavonte Dean FR (4 star)

FS –
1) Sheldrick Redwine JR (3 star)
2) Romeao Finley SO (4 star)
3) Amari Carter FR (3 star)

SS –
1) Jaquan Johnson JR (3 star)
2) Robert Knowles SO (3 star)

RCB –
1) Malek Young SO (3 star)
2) Michael Jackson JR (4 star)

All the 3 star kids were high 3 star kids with multi major P5 offers.

Michael Hay had as many 15 yard penalties as Pierce. At least Pierce can make up for his with catches but they need to stop.
That is the first player I thought of when Pierce started getting those penalties. I can still see Marrone having that "friendly conversation" with Hay on the sideline.

Great job and, for the most part, they played very well but their DL won them the game. Even in max-protection we couldn't buy enough time (coupled with very good coverage) to get open. That's why Eric was running for his life from the very first snap.

i'll have to look up their DLine. Those guys were huge/tall.

I must say I gave up on having a running game this year earlier in the season. Figured our young OL needed one more offseason to build up. Pleasantly surprised they have improved during the season.

the best part is that it's come against Clemson and Miami. I felt like Miami was leaving itself open to the run and dropping more into coverage but it doesn't matter really, we haven't been able to run against 4 man fronts all season and I feel Miami's DL was the best we've played to date. The OL did a good job to open holes and Elmore played a big part in that to.

RB's broke some tackles for a change and I thought Neal look good.

Miami's DLine was a huge factor. They didn't give Dungey much and they had some of our OL on ice skates. I noticed at the game that they were emphasizing sending there DE's wide on pass plays. They wanted Dungey to step into the pocket and not spread beyond the tackle box. This caused Eric some issues as there were a lot of throws he threw without stepping up or stepping into them. It was a good gameplan, as I think for as good as Eric is, pocket passing is where he needs his biggest growth.

There were a few that advocated going to all pass it was getting so frustrating trying to run. I wasn't quite to that point but I didn't hold out any hope that we'd ever run like we did vs Miami

Speaking of conversations, did anyone else see HCDB yelling at #71 after he caused a penalty on I think a punt ? Made him do push ups on the sideline. Kid was pissed. Good stuff.

That was because he didn't know where his helmet was.

I remember saying to my wife during the game that Dungey doesn't like to step up and always looks to escape outside (with the protection he's had for 2 1/2 years I don't blame him). I'm sure the guys that get paid to see things like that had no trouble picking up on it.

I remember it very well.

But I also remember Marrone putting him right back in the game.

I loved Michael Hay - he was one tough dude. And I didn't think he did anything wrong that day in Pisscataway.
