We were fine with Gerry Macnamera as a freshmen pg, were his pg skills really that much better then Gbinije,Cooney, Buss, and BJ?

I hate to bust everyones bubble but I would hate to go through the second half of the 2002 season without carmelo anthony.

Well Edelin's pg skills were excellent and Gerry often played off the ball.

This.
I'd hate to see a VERY TIRED Tyler Ennis navigating through March Madness.
The ACC will be a grind, and freshmen are still freshmen. The kid's a player, but I can see teams pressing us from the get-go to try and wear him out. MCW had Brandon to ease the pressure, so MikeG and TC especially, HAVE to at least be serviceable in the backcourt. The year we had Devo at PG ended up being a disaster- hate to see that replayed w/ this team.

We hear this every year...only one point guard...press, press, press. Last year, it only happened once to my recollection, in the BE Final. Let's see how Mike and Trevor progress. My feelings are they will be able to pick up the slack. And if I recall, last year we were also concerned about Brandon being able to spell MCW. It's going to be a great year!

An injury to Ennis concerns me more than facing a pressure defense or fatigue. Hell we don't even truly know if Ennis can run the team effectively against pressure defense, no point getting to worryied about what his backup might or might not do against it.

And that's the point: In a one-&-done scenario, all you need is that one time where it DOES work. Not everyone brings pressure like UL, but getting to a championship game and facing a superior pressing team will likely bring the same result again this year.
Personally, I'm past the point of gaudy regular seasons. I want Ennis & the team to be ready for the UL's & Duke's of the world...in a championship game scenario, not just to do well in some regular season snooze-fest vs VT.
If we get far enough, we'll see the kinda press that I'm worried about- and we will need an adequate back-up...mark my words.
And yes, it WILL be a great year!

It happened already this season - exhibition game in Ottawa against Carlton. Ennis got gassed, but saved by the timeouts. JB used Gbinije at SF to help beat the press.

It wasn't pretty, SU was fortunate to get out with the win. But Gbinije was a swing guy provides something we didn't have last year. Would not want to see a repeat of the second half of that BE Final.

I like this team too, but lets remember we are one turned ankle or two quick whistles from disaster every night we play.

My kingdom for James Thues on this team.

Will be very important to get MG some minutes at PG in the cupcake portion of the schedule. He needs time to shake the rust off.

I think Ennis will have the ability to stay out of foul trouble playing at the top of the zone. And if he is in foul trouble, I think he's smart enough to not commit silly fouls.
