Ennis just tosses in 28 like its nothing Doesn't look a ton different than last night when he was 1-9 other than he was lights out making his easy looks and dropping 28. Seriously good pg on our hands here guys, We should allbe like OMG but we all kind figured he would start making shots.

That's why I wasn't concerned about the prospect of losing MCW this spring when I heard about Ennis...dropping 53 points for St. Benedict's the day after he heard he got snubbed out of a Mickey D's nomination?

Are you serious? That's the type of PG we need. Ever since I read that I wasn't worried about this kid. He's ready to ball out.

Earlier we were told not to post that it might have something to do with the dominant big man down low being out and the other one being in foul trouble. I had no intention of doing so, but now I just want to ask the question if anyone things that had any substantial impact. Bilas seemed to think so. I guess tomorrow and going on we will be able to answer that more confidently, and I'm hoping this experience will fuel Tyler's development and confidence regardless of why it happened.

It certainly seemed like the majority of Ennis' points came on uncontested layups as a result of the big man being out/being in but not being able to really play defense.

Regardless, Ennis knocked down a couple jumpshots too, and was once again money from the FT line.

I thought Bilas overrated Ennis' passing though. He was gushing about his passing, but maybe we were spoiled by MCW a bit, but Ennis' passing and especially his vision haven't really impressed me yet. His defensive effort is pretty lackluster as well.

Having said that, this was a big game for him and I think he'll continue to get better.

Bilas also quoted Jimmy B as saying that Ennis is the b-ball smartest point guard he's ever had.

...And Rak with the loudest 4 point, 2 rebound, 0 block performance. Rak is such a physically impressive dude that I always believe he had a much better game stat wise until I look at the box score. He seems like he is doing more. He reminds me a lot of Jeremy McNeil who was an absolute physical specimen but never seemed to parlay that into consistent tangible production.

DID YOU KNOW?

Da da da. Da da da!

Tyler Ennis led all Syracuse players in BLOCKED SHOTS against Cal. It was only one, but still, I was floored by that considering we have all the high flyers.

I just now looked at the box score on ESPN.com, and my jaw dropped when I saw that Ennis had put up 28. I knew he was over 20 points, but man, one bucket shy of 30 for our freshman PG. That's phenomenal, and we're sure as heck going to need him to score this year. And I thought Fair was a quiet scorer!

I love his 3 point shooting so far. His form looks simple, not a lot to go wrong, and confident. We've all been concerned about another 3 point threat and we may not have to look any further than Tyler Ennis.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want him tossing up deep balls all day long -- and I don't think he would -- but he has shown the ability to make defenses pay for leaving him open.

And decent 3-point shooting from him will really open things up for him to operate since defenses will have to be honest. That will make it a ton easier for him to get inside and either go for the layup or dish to a big man, maybe even kick it out to Cooney floating around the 3-point line. MCW's lack of shooting didn't give him this option last year.

Ennis is one of the smoothest players I can recall playing for SU. As he continues to come into his stride and comfort zone, he will only get better. He can get to the hole almost on demand. Very MCW-esque. I likey.

Scouts honor with God as my witness I was about to post a headline "Shhh...Ennis had 28 points last night" But then I scrolled down to see if I should just add to a thread. Suffice to say you beat me to it. We're obviously not going to get 28 on a consistent basis but I think we'll get what we need every game from Ennis. Smooth, controlled, steady and effective. I still say the 2 most important things to get from Ennis this year are to 1) limit turnovers as the primary ballhandler and 2) make his free throws. Every thing else is gravy. So pass the freaking potatoes and stuffing cause we got gravy!

Smartest freshman PG he's ever had. And I could see that. His poise and ability to control pace as a freshman is really pretty amazing.

I feel a lot more comfortable with the ball in his hands than with MCW. He understands situations and clock. He knows when to hold the ball out and not to attack. He has all the little intangibles that most of today's young players have no clue about. You will also notice when he will take a smart foul instead letting a team get a run out. He reads bad passes from teammates and really comes to the ball to avoid turnovers. He is just a really smart player. I also want the ball in his hands at the end of games because he will be pretty good at the foul line. We have three guys you want handling the ball at the end of games to get fouled; Ennis, Cooney & Fair. When was the last time we could say that?

I agree with that too. Having said that, the comfort is there because you know he'll be safe with the ball, but sometimes we're going to need him to take those chances that MCW took last year. I'd also like to see him get a little more aggressive in his shot selection. He had a lot of opportunities where he could have pulled up yesterday, and instead, he hesitated and eventually dribbled back out and reset the offense and we got worse looks as a result of it. MCW never got his shot to really work last year, but he had the confidence to take the jumpshot when defenses gave it to him. Ennis has a better jumpshot right now, but won't take those shots yet.

Regardless, I think we got a good college PG in Ennis.
