Rak and Coleman

He scored 0pts in the NC game! He was great defensively!

He was definitely a beast on D, but a big part of their offense as well. 14ppg on the season.

Not surprised here with their play at Syracuse, particularly Rak.

Rak was highly overrated coming out of high school. Never should have been a McDonald's AA. First time I saw him play I wondered what everyone was thinking. He had zero offensive skill set in high school.

Coleman has been a little more of a disappointment. Maybe if I had seen him more in high school, I wouldn't feel that way.

If we could somehow combine Rak, Coleman and Keita, we'd have an AA center.

Rak for his shot blocking.

Coleman for his face-up offensive game.

Keita for his hustle and rebounding.

It's going to be center by committee again this year.

Sigh.
Agreed. It will be center-by-committee this year. Situational substitutions. There will most likely be games where DC goes off (as in Canada), but other games where he will be invisible (or highly visible on the bench). Rak will have a few above-decent games. BMK will be BMK - Charlie hustle, playing his a$$ off. He will win a game or two for us.

Hop is coaching the bigs and they really have not progressed much. It worries me a bit how he would coach the entire team when the time comes. Are there no ex players willing to step up and offer some help with this?

It's a little tough to teach someone to catch/hold on to the ball (Coleman). It's also tough to teach focus and controlled aggression (Christmas). It's tough to get somebody to put on weight when they refuse to change their eating habits (Keita).
I'm not saying Mike is Pete Newell, but he is a very competent coach. Do you think for one minute that JB would turn over his legacy to someone he didn't feel would do an excellent job?

i am in no way concerned about our 3 bigs. perhaps the best talent combo to be found in any conference.
guard depth...now that's an issue.

Against the garbage of the SEC! And 8 of those pts were on dunks

If we got Dakari Johnson this year, I'd feel real bad for whoever is the odd man out.

Edit: I'm thankful that we are good on defense with the players we have. We also do not need to rely on our bigs to win games. We have a potential AA and ACC POTY candidate on our team, as well as a possible 6th man of the year right behind him. We have a young point guard, some decent shooting guards, and serviceable centers. At this point of the game, we know what each player will bring. Anything more is gravy

Coleman looked very comfortable playing the 4 and it was nice to see him have such a good game.

You have first hand knowledge of Keita's eating habits?

Understand that some people just have a high metabolism, and are not capable of increasing their weight significantly. (I wish I had that problem!)

If it really is a problem of eating habits, I would think it would be on him, as I doubt he wouldn't have been told this, and given access to dieticians that could work with him to develop a solid meal plan to suit his needs.

It has been said before this year that Keita is only willing to maintain a diet level that he chooses. As I recall, this came up last year when a similar thread was posted saying that Keita needed to put on weight.

I've heard that, too - you're not wrong.

But Keita's an ectomorph with a high metabolism; there's just no natural way for a Division I athlete in his early 20s to overcome that and put on useful weight. Diet or no, he's going to keep that shape for a long time.
