Random memorable games

Nichols' 37 points against St. John's in the Dome. I remember he went on a ridiculous scoring run in the second half. I might be mixing up my memories, but was this also the game where he accidently did a reverse somersault while jogging down the court after a made 3?

March 4, 1990

Might be the best G-town game ever.
And one where free throws actually saved us.

Pandemonium in the Dome.
That despicable goon JT got tossed after somehow getting 3 technicals.
The Orange were down by 2...Billy Owens about to launch last ditch hail Mary...and he gets fouled half a mile from the basket.
Owens hits both with a second left.
And SU prevails in OT!

Then the G-town game in February 2010 in DC.
The Orange blew a 23 point lead.
Kris Joseph had to drive to the hoop in the final seconds to win it.
Again...free throws save us.
The Orange were 27-30 from the line.
(Had to look up the exact number).

David Johnson hitting a jumper over Alonzo Mourning to win the Big East Tournament.

[That happened, right?]

Sherm matching the NCAA record with 22 assists against Providence in a 100-96 win.
It was like watching Magic run the Showtime Lakers with all the fast-break buckets and scoring.

PS - we scored 100 or more points in a game 11 times that season.

You can keep your tacos - I'd like some fries, please! ;)

12/4/76, JB's first season, SU goes on the road and knocks off a Top 10 Louisville team, 76-75. At this point, many viewed the 1975 Final Four run as a fluke, but this win said SU was legitimate and belonged on the national stage. The rest is history.

Oh yeah, it was a different time. No local television for this game. Listened to the game on the radio in my dorm room, Joel Mareiness on the call.

I think he was so pissed at himself at that point that he didn't even think of the fact that there were probably GA tickets available haha.
I had a situation where a baseball manufacturer rep was leaving me tickets to a sold out Yankees/Red Sox game. I went to will call and there was nothing there. I gave the guy at the window all the information and he said we have tickets but you have to pay for them. I had no choice and he charged me $50 each for four tickets. Turns out he sold us tickets right behind home plate in the Yankees family section and we sat with Mrs. Roger Clemens and Mrs. Ramiro Mendoza. This was like a year before Debbie Clemens made the SI issue.

Do we have a player that is capable of doing this right now?

How aobut the play to seal the game where MCW left the top of the zone to go to the baseline and steal the ball from the Ville big man?

I'm on the younger side (27) - but MCW that year was by far the best Guard I've ever seen at the top of the zone. Dude was a menace with unreal length and incredible instincts at the top.

My contribution: Ennis' half courter vs. Pitt to keep our undefeated season alive. We had a great comeback in the last 2 minutes or so in a game that it seemed like we had no chance of winning. CJ also hit an unreal shot in the corner during that run. That team might not have been one of our better ones recently, but they were sure fun to watch when they seemed to win every game no matter what those first 25 or so

The start of our recent Golden Age was an OT win in 2008-2009 CBE Classic in Kansas City against Kansas.
Flynn hit an onions 3 to force OT.
JB switched to man to man in the 2nd half and we went on a run and came back to win.
That's a GREAT one.

This is a great thread. Who know's what really "random" but so many games the problem is just remembering them.

2009 vs UNC at The Garden - Wes Johnson's coming out party and the team's coming out party.

2003 vs Missouri - they were ranked higher. Big Monday. First of many big wins that season.

2011 at Uconn - If I remember correctly we were in the midst of a big time losing streak (just got blown out at home by Seton Hall) and then went to Uconn - where we never win - and won. Very random.

2002 at Richmond - Totally random. Big game for Hakim Warrick. Won on the road. You could say it was a meaningless game in the NIT versus a small school but remember it being a fun game and rooting like heck.

That whole Maui Tournament in 2013 seemed kind of random since we didn't think the team was all that great but they ran the table there.

We always seem to go to Notre Dame in a down year and beat them. 2002 comes to mind and more recently as well.

Lots of great memories.

Okay this one is completely random, but if you wanna revisit the dominance of that 09-10 team, this game is the one to watch imo (not blowing out UNC at MSG or blowing out Gtown Nova at home as those teams turned out pretty mediocre): anybody remember the one against WVU at their place? That WVU team was absolutely loaded, might be their best team ever and eventually made the Final 4 that year. We went in there, had a tight game for a while and then proceeded to blow them out towards the end; it was a double digit lead when it was 1 minute left, and then they starting hitting ridiculous 3s which brought the final deficit down to 1. I remember Brandon Triche was awesome in that game and I was totally in awe watching us blowing a top 10 team (they were ranked 9 or 10 iirc) at their home like that. God I miss watching that team..

I was one of about a dozen SU fans in Morgantown that day and remember it well. A lot of fun, Triche made a clutch shot to clinch the win.

A few very random ones:

Seton Hall Big East Tournament game in 2009. Onuaku and their big guy got into it. Ongenaut got hammered with a cheap shot when he went to the basket almost starting a fight and one of their guys went after Devendorf...and then we took over what had been a close game and blew them off the floor, capped by Devendorf drilling a 3 from the corner and really celebrating hard after. Loved how right after all the BS, we took it up a notch and played better, and they got rattled.

1995 vs. Villanova. John Wallace had a huge dunk on basically a sprint to the rim where he caught a bounce pass that came from the wing and just hammered it home. Moten with the game winning 3 with maybe 10 seconds left.

2001 at NC State where we were down by 10-15 all game, came back with the press and pulled out a close win. Ugly, played awful for 30 minutes and found a way to pull it out.

2002 NIT Rd. 2 vs Butler - Won by 1 in OT after coming back from double digit deficit. I remember it being a great game.

2004-05 - @ Rutgers: 20 pt. comeback. I believe this was a Big Monday matchup.

2006-07 - Wichita State - Amazing comeback, down like 19 points mid 2nd half and then DNIC blows a breakaway layup.

I was at that Butler game. I remember attendance was like 5,000 but it was loud because everyone there was a diehard that was super into the game. Place was going nuts down the stretch and in OT. Shumpert had around 34-36 points, I think.

I was also at that Wichita St. game. What was especially crazy is how late that comeback started. Im pretty sure we were still down by about 20 with 5 minutes left.
