Randy Edsall to hang up his cleats

Ya know, this is sad for UConn. I get it, passionate dislike and all. But UConn is completely dismantled.

We don’t have many programs left in the Northeast and this is probably better for us somehow, someway. But, it’s sad to see.

And SU guy or not, I’m not a fan of Edsall. This wreaks of I’m taking my ball now.Maybe not, maybe the kids wanted nothing to do with him. But I’m not sure.

They should not be losing to Holy Cross. Ever. By 10 no less. That program is nuclear right now. Career suicide for a P5 assistant. Is it really that hard for them to draw talent to compete with their schedule?

They have done some special things with their football program, especially with their choices for HCs. Hope this doesn’t also mark the end of their program at the D1 level. It would be a shame if we had to fill those gaps in future schedules again.

Although if the alliance scheduling changes being discussed happen, those games will never happen anyway.

That program had a run for sure. And if Randy didn't loathe Dr. Gross it was pretty possible he would've been here if I remember the story correctly.

They should just drop football and invest in lacrosse. It's a better institutional fit for them.

They'll be fine. Not now or anytime soon, but someday they'll find their footing and be alright.

Not BC, Pitt, Cuse, Rutgers ... Probably like UMass level.

Expand on this. I don’t remember the story. Did we offer him before Marrone?

I believe there was strong backing and push by prominent football alumni for Randy

Like a lot of former players and guys who went on to make a lot of money were basically begging the committee to hire him. It may not have been that extreme but they were not happy when he wasn't hired

Wasn’t there a letter of support signed by several former players?

I actually think it was touched on in a PS article not too long ago. A lot of guys from Mac era / early P years were big Edsall guys

Lots of water under the bridge but yeah believe he was deep in the pool. Could swear Jake started a thread on some version of this board about driving an Edsall.

Favorite quote from the Boneyard “were on the front page top story on ESPN, that’s proof we’re still relevant”…

No, it’s proof that your football program is a complete sh!tshow that every college football fan will read that article like a line of cars rubbernecking past a car accident.

Was it really a run, though? I remember it more like a slow jog around the block.

Any chance we could use coach Edsall this year? Some sort of assistant within the team to help break down film etc? I mean if FHCDM can be an O-line coach at Bama, Edsall can do work behind the scenes for us.

I have concerns if Randy would be a good culture fit based on what I have read and heard, but I could be wrong.

Unfortunately, the Dogs seen by most of the universe as a basketball school.
