Randy Edsall's fingerprints are all over (nearly) every great Syracuse football memory

Did Mac take anyone with him to New England? I’m surprised none of those guys got a shot w the Patriots.

Edit: I think he took Ivan Fears who is still w the patriots
Believe he also took DC Norm Gerber and TE coach Dave Uryus.

I hate to say this now but the one guy who su could had dream job was Edsall. He wanted it bad if I recall. I think he woulda been better than coach p cause as I have said before coach p is a great assistant. Not much of a head guy though. Just sucks he left a team like uconn the way he did. That was without a doubt the most classless coaching moment I can think of at this moment. Everyone makes mistakes and as a former Orangeman I can’t hate on him but I will for this game.
What a ridiculous take. Not much of a head guy, yeah. One losing season in 14 years. Insanity

Did u not see SU with 6-8 first round draft picks end up bing 9-3 or close to that. Do we have 3-6 first rounders now. Hell no. Them teams were loaded. Should I do a list of studs who which we had playing for us then. Crazy to think anyone of them teams couldn’t have played for National Championship. Crap we had Tennessee on the ropes in the dome until coach p didn’t go for the win. We were a stud team then and shoulda beat the NC period. no excuse.

Not clicking on that article, not reading this thread, just throwing it out there that the title is kinda gross.

How do u not go for the win when u won the game until the flimsiest 4th down call allowed Tennessee to kick a fg?

Even if we made all the putts in 98 we prob still don’t win the NC. That P stinks!

I gotta Watch that game again there was a fourth down and we shoulda went for it and we punted but I don’t know exactly when. After I watch it I will get back to ya.

Coach P was 9 years older with more experience including prior head coaching (34-17 record) besides defensive coordinator experience and was 42 years old. Remember Randy was 33 years old and the DB/RB coach when coach Mac left with all his experience at SU and with DB’s and RB’s.
I don’t have the energy for this debate anymore, just read this and take it as gospel people.

In 1991, teams weren’t hiring 33 year olds to run their programs.

Especially one that bad been a doormat for the better part of 20 years and just begun to climb out of the abyss.

Coach P is a College Football Hall of Famer.

Coach P had experience as a HC. I’m guessing Jake placed some importance on that.

Uconn didn’t have our talent. I just thought coach p was a very conservative coach and it didn’t help us. My opinion

Agree P became way too conservative. Our run, run, pass, punt offense was stimulating to watch.

Though Edsall just called the RPO "communism." Not sure how much more conservative you can be than to whine about one of the game's great innovations.

Randy is a very good coach, but his time passed.

Coach P will be in the College Football Hall of Fame some day.

Randy is a great guy, and was a great assistant coach here. But he is not headed to the college football hall of fame.

Jake made the right call.

To suggest otherwise would be to cast doubt on the best period of Syracuse football since the 50s/60s. It is foolish to think Randy Edsall would have made the Orangemen a 10-11 win team vs the 8-10 win plateau P got it to. We tend to look at why it ended badly and don't focus on why it was so good to begin with.

the foundation was laid with Mac and P/D did things to stabilize and build upon it. I take umbrage with the fact that they were conservative. At times they were but at other times it was the most entertaining brand of football i've ever seen. The pro style option that they ultimately built for McNabb was dynamic. I can recall games where the run game just suffocated opposing teams. We have not seen that type of dominance since.

I also loved that P wasn't about P in terms of ego. Guy was a football guy all the way through. Always deflected the attention and thrusted it upon the team. To me that is the type of coach you always want to have.

Here is a picture of the Hall of Languages before SU hired Randy Edsall

I actually know this. I worked with randy's wife a number of years ago. Jake wanted to make sure that George would be the OC. Paul was A-okay with that. Randy, not so much. Plus, George might not have wanted to work for Randy.

It's instantly disqualifying. Jake made the right call.

I didn't see this until today. Very interesting. Makes a lot of sense.

Randy showed the poor judgement that would characterize his career as a mediocre head coach.

Jake made the right call.

Yeah, I was going to post the same thing. Not keeping George on board is immediately disqualifying... And dumb. Shows a lot of insecurity from Edsall.

Glad I still have the 1991 and 1992 season memories. They were incredible. Today's fans wouldn't even understand it. Sounds like I wouldn't have had those with Edsall and his re-vamp of the offensive staff.

He made Jake's decision easy.
