Rank ACC teams by traveling fans

I was in the lower bowl in the SU section and it was large. And loud.

Looking forward to that game next year. It will be warmer, that much I know.
Road trip. Get the band back together for a weekend.

I looked at the schedule to see when the MD game was. I still can’t believe we are playing AT liberty. We should have 7 home games.

I'm surprised BC travels at all. I'm guessing mostly family. To put it in perspective, this is how bad support is for BC. Greater Boston 5 million people. Commuting distance, 8 Million. If we had their support, we'd be pulling 2700 - 4000 a game. We'd be praying for 4500. A high school rivalry game.

Virginia Tech was probably #1 on this list up until 7-8 years ago when Clemson surpassed them in terms of program strength.

I'm not sure that SU travels well, strictly speaking. But we turn out well in areas that have high concentrations of CNY transplants and SU alums.

SU seems to have big contingents when we play BC, UNC, NC State, Wake, Miami, GaTech. But not so much when we play FSU, Clemson, VaTech, Pitt.

Agreed. We just aren't the type of fanbase that piles a family into an RV and travels across states to watch our team the way big state schools do.

Another thing working against us is that the SU football fanbase just isn't all that big. If you're an SU football fan, you either grew up immediately around Central NY, or went to SU. It's not like Ohio State, for instance, where you immediately have an emotional connection with that school from when you're a child if you live in Ohio, and you're churning out like 10k graduates per year.

If I'm reading our future schedules webpage right, we've arranged a 3 for 2 with Liberty and a 2 for 1 with Old Dominion.

Over the past 25 years or so, this is roughly how I would categorize visiting fan bases...

Overwhelming presence:
Penn State

Huge presence:
Notre Dame
Tennessee
Clemson
LSU
Michigan
Auburn
Virginia Tech
West Virginia
Oklahoma

Solid:
Florida State
Iowa
Washington
Pitt
Miami

I wasn't at the 1992 Ohio State game. I assume they brought a ton of people.

I remember that Penn State game in circa 2008, where they sent an evil army of white that swarmed the Dome.

Booed Gross and GRob and cheered Dennis Quaid to no end at halftime, too.
