Ray Rice flip

i've been on this board for years now but i completely forgot how the whole Ray Rice flip occurred. Was Rutgers in on Rice when he committed to Syracuse or was it a situation they swooped in when P was fired? I'm trying to get some insight as to how this works so close to signing day and if we really have any chance on their recruits. I know every situation is different but that was quite the coup for Schiano, he must have put in serious work prior to P getting canned.

We were the final 2. Don't think we were in the final 2 in any of the Rutgers commits.

Rutgers/Schiano had recruited Rice that year, but he chose to commit to SU. When P got fired, Schiano immediately called him up "to say he was sorry and make sure he was doing ok", well that and to invite him down to Rutgers to see if he'd be interested in playing down there instead now that he staff at SU he committed to was gone.

So there was already a relationship there prior to the SU firing, and then he did immediately swoop in as soon as the news about Pasqualoni came out. Of course with the typical Schiano spin to try to make it seem like a magnanimous gesture instead of what it was - him simply trying to flip a very good prospect from a rival school to his own team.

He flipped him and Greene...both NFLers. IIRC Schiano convinced Rice's Mom he would take care of her baby and Rutgers is only 15 mins from New Rochelle.

I thought there were extenuating circumstances, involving his girlfriend who lived near NYC being pregnant. Maybe I'm confusing Rice with someone else.
