Class of 2026 RB D'Antae Sheffey (PA) Flipped to PSU

Sheffey had a few injuries the last two years and the move from State College to Harrisburg for his Junior season was an odd choice with Mickens.
He missed a game this year with no explanation.
I think him not playing much his junior at RB really hurt his growth.

yeah, Id guess his development was really hurt by that decision and it's probably most of the reason he fell so much in the rankings

Could be. I just quick glanced at the 3 decommits recruiting profiles to see who their lead recruiters were but none listed. If all 3 had the same was thinking could speak to an upcoming coaching vacancy but I always try and connect dots whether or not they exist.

id also say, its a very limited sample size primarily in mop up duty, but I havent hated what I have seen from Tylik Hill, which is more than I can say out of pretty much any other RB on the roster this year
Think hill can be a great 3rd down/change of pace back but not sure he has the build to be a 20+ p/g carry bellcow type... I'm not sure we have one on the roster currently

this is fair, I was just stating he has looked better than expected

i.e he has actually played snaps and looked competent.

I don't think we have an offense that would be one RB taking almost all of the carries unless he is just that much better than all the other backs. Also he would need to be a RB that is great in pass protection and catching the ball for many plays which i'm unsure of how he is that regard. So often that will be a separate rotational back. But I don't see why Tylik wouldn't have the ability to get 20 carries in a game. He is listed at 5'-9 205 lbs. That is a solid size, especially for a freshman. I mean Lequint was listed at just 6'-0" and 201 lbs his final year as a junior.

What’s the point of accepting a commit a year before and then drop him a week before signing day? Seems like a lot of these early takes are reaches that Fran can get when he wants.

he was ranked significantly higher a year ago and has dealt with Injuries and essentially losing his junior season due to being the backup to Mickens.

Do you know for sure we dropped him? If so was football the reason? I'm genuinely asking, I have zero details on it and obviously our coaches can't and won't say.

I think on ability alone we'd have kept him injuries or not but again I don't know that as fact.

No insider information but the timing of his announcment with the two WR seems like all three where dropped.

He was dropped, otherwise he would've signed during the window. Whether Fran and Co made the right decision we'll know in a couple of years.

What position is he even being recruited to play?

Something to also consider is that kids often don’t report PWO offers as that. Not saying his is at Missou but not saying it isn’t either.

PWO no longer exist as far as I'm aware. 105 player hard cap

Listed as RB but could well be an "athlete" with position TBD. Similar to the Central York kid we took.

Hope we have some transfer RBs coming in or position changes because that room is painfully thin currently vs the 17? WR and DBs we currently have. If no new RBs come in some of those will have to move.

I wouldn't even consider Syracuse if I was a running back. The percentage of runs up the middle has to be around 90%.

"Maybe it'll work this time!"
The failure of the offense to modify its tendencies during the midst of a GROB-level offensive collapse remains mind boggling. I do get that the middle runs have value when the passing game is clicking. We saw that on the one Clemson drive where we gashed them for nearly a whole series. At the very least, running that play set frequently... the D probably has to have 2-3 defenders keeping an eye on that part of the field. With good OTs, then it is a matter of 2 edge guys vs 2 OTs. The 3 WRs and TE are likely keeping 4-6 other defenders occupied somehow. A good blocking back to handle one blitzer. I can see where runs up the middle support the passing game.

Once we dropped down to Collins, that was it for that. And once we dropped down even further to Filardi and lost the deep pass threat, then it was all the worse. If you cannot pass against a basic defensive set (i.e. not prevent, second/third string time), then the D can focus on the run whether it is up the middle or anywhere else. I don't think running wide from our offense would have accomplished much different results. I would have liked to see more trickery just to see if it could spark some confidence in the offense... but that really was not attempted (other than the Cook pass and one WR run). At least runs up the middle meant less fumbles and keep the play clock running to get the game over with. Or something. Cannot have a dumpster fire without ending up with a bunch of ashes.

He played DB in High School.
He had some odd things during his High School career transfering his Junior year to sit behinda top RB and then hurting his wrist. Senior year was fine, the leauge is not the best he is in but it's got some good top teams. He missed a game for undiscolsed reasons.
I'm guessing the staff took a flyer on hm and hoped he would develop into something better, like the WRs and did not.

He could be a non Scholorship offer for Missou but we won't know that until/if he signs.

I was going by the information posted in here. I do not know for a fact, but it seems likely.

I do think we need some RB depth. First, have to hope Yasin comes back, and then develop depth behind him. Right now the only one that has impressed me is Tylik Hill.
