Class of 2015 RB Jonathan Forrest (NY)

No offer from Cuse yet. Since he is one of the few NYS 2015 prospects, I was just wondering what you guys think of him. 2015 is suppose to be a year that we get some RB commits

Seems to be a solid player in all the areas but not really outstanding in any. His hands and power stand out to me slightly. Nice frame, not overly quick or outstanding breakaway speed. Seems like we would have other offers out first then he would be later in the process if we lose out on others. Lower 3 star recruit in my mind.

pretty shifty for his size. looks to be about 6'1" compared to the other players out there. decent speed for a r.b. ad will only get faster as he develops. He reminds me of a bigger mike hart, but not as shifty as hart was.

Fair evaluation. I have similar thoughts. He is a solid prospect. The only thing I feel different about is that he is currently the 2nd ranked player in NYS according to scout. He has Virginia and Uconn offers. Should we give him a pending offer, based on him visiting the campus or camping? Because if he pulls the trigger on one of these teams now I can hear a bunch of guys saying here we go again losing out on NYS top recruits. I know we are gonna be in on some good RB prospects but it might be safe to give him a non commitable offer. I dont know

You give slight preference to NY kids since they are within close proximity and its the local team hence the liklihood of commiting. There are alot of variables involved here. How far down the board he is, liklihood of getting better recruits, how many RBs we want to take, What are the other RBs saying about us.
This early you want to offer really top players, we need to recruit him and keep him under evaluation, that's it for now.

Good Points

This is a class we really need to be hitting our A listers at running back. He looks good, so if the staff evaluates him to be on that A list then a scholarship offer should be going out very soon.

Could be alot of reasons if in fact he hasn't been offered, I just counted 11 RB offers on the table just on this board. He looks like an athlete good enough to offer even at DB but might wanting to only play RB. He could be 12th on our list. Who knows. Just looked at Anthony Dubose from Newburgh NYS' other top RB and they look very similar. For me Dubose has alittle more burst but Forrest looks alittle more polished particularly out of the backfield. Both are about the same size too.

I liked him all along. He has already visited Rutgers a few times. Not sure if they backed off since getting Barkley. I would offer him and try to get him early, and then go for a perceived stud RB.

I thought Dubose as a freshman was legit. His jr. highlights didnt impress me as much. I wonder if the staff will pursue him. That offer was given to him by Moore 2 years ago when Marrone was the coach.

I am not sure where Forrest falls (no pun intended). But, it looks like the staff is going to target speed and play making ability in RBs going forward, including the ability to be a threat catching passes out of the backfield or splitting out.

He has some nice tools. (keep in mind this is all relatively speaking). Cuts well. Shows good but not exceptional burst (actually shows up more on the screen plays). Certainly is put together well. Big lower half. I worry about kids like this simply being too big and strong for their competition, and how it plays out when they have to deal with bigger, faster, defenders. I think he compares fine to someone like Devine Ozigbo, but of course, the staff didnt offer him either.

I'd like to see more film of him at linebacker.

Looks like Cuse finally made contact. No offer, but are looking for him to camp. Seems like he has legit interest. Not sure when our camps are, but it would be nice to get a solid RB on the commit list, and then can take some chances on some big guns.

Interesting we aren't having any satellite camps downstate this year. Maybe we finally got sick of the NYC coaches sending their top kids to other schools without giving us so much as a sniff? If that's the message I don't mind it one bit. them

Well this is the description for the camps ...

2014 Scott Shafer One Day Football Camps Welcome! We are hosting several one day football camps at Syracuse University. These camps are designed for high school football student-athletes (entering grades 9-12) and will provide an opportunity for direct interaction with and instruction from the Syracuse coaching staff. We hope one of the dates will be convenient for you as you make your way through your camp circuit this summer.

** Please note there will not be an overnight/commuter camp in 2014.

not sure the reason, but from the schedule it looks like we aren't going to be down there this year.

guessing its the same reason we don't have jr days. (which i still haven't figured out but people have reassured me it's ok because the coaches do no wrong)

Personally I think if a kid is really interested in Syracuse they will attend a camp on campus. Programs like ECU, Isaiah Johnsons' school, traveled all over the country for camps last year. Just like out of state kids are finding ways to attend out of state Jr Days they will attend camps on the campuses of schools in which they have interest.

I have never been a fan of giving kids non-committable offers just to try to keep him in a holding pattern.

We currently have 13 offers on one site to running backs.

It's not about anyone doing "no wrong", it's about being critical about the coaches and the path they are taking towards recruiting with little if any knowledge of what path they are actually taking. There isn't a single person here who keeps obsessing about our lack of an early junior day that has any understanding whatsoever as to what the coaches are actually doing right now instead of that. That's the problem. There's an assumption, intentional or not, that what they are doing is inferior without any actual knowledge to compare what they are doing to an early junior day and I personally have a major problem with that. And thankfully I'm not the only one.

you have a "major problem" with message board posters disagreeing with a coaching decision?

Some are said with such conviction that you can only gather that they must be other D1 coaches with more experience than Shafer.

You can question respectfully.
