Class of 2024 RB Ju'Juan Johnson (LA) TRANSFERRING TO SYRACUSE (1/6/26)

I highly doubt this is the starting running back. Still need to add a proven starter there

I hope he is not coming to SU to be the starting RB. This will be a huge step down based on his production/YPC. If SU wants to be any better in '26 they best get a big fish in this portal...someone like the Tennessee RB.
This might stun you, but Ju'Juan Johnson is actually the higher rated transfer RB in the portal per 247. I would be stunned if they are still pursuing Peyton Lewis, though if they add him as well, great, though I'm not sure it's the best use of resources at this point.

His total rushing stats for 2025 was 41 rushes for 155 yards and 2 TDs.
I hope he blows it up in 2026 but, based on those stats, leaving the rushing to Nixon and Johnson is risky.

Don’t forget about hill as well
I like Hill but I don’t think he’s an every down back. He’s more of a skat back. Tiny frame. Fast and quick as hell. So you’ll use him a series or two a game to change tempo and give defenses a different look. He’d probably be a pretty good kick and punt returner as well

We need more than 1 from the portal and I think when you factor in our #1 return guy leaving (Malachi James) and JuJuan getting real reps for a SEC program (and he can catch out of the backfield), a lot to likely his versatility for the RB depth chart.

Hopefully we see another lead back and then we’ll be sitting pretty here at least for the RB’s.

Granted we don't know the status of Will Nixon and how they plan to use Johnson.

Johnson is an athlete. They will find a role for him.

Reserving any excitement until we get a line. You could have Peterson back there and it wouldn’t mean much with the line we had

I disagree. Tylik Hill at 5'-9" and 205 lbs is not too small as to relegate him to change of pace carries only. I mean he probably wouldn't get 90% of the carries like say Lequint did, but he could be the primary back. And he was just a true freshman so no reason he couldn't add a bit more weight. But at 5'9" he doesn't need to add much more. With his vision and his ability to make good jump cuts in small spaces I can even see him being successful in short yardage situations. I don't think he would be used like a speedy, more slender change of pace back would be used.

Looking at his tape, he seems to try to run around people instead of through them. Are we sure he will be used as a RB?

Catching mattered also now we have a proven OL coach with years of experience.
